I recall that Obama wanted to give it back to Cuba. Joe doesn't have time to do that at this point. Even if he tried, Trump would undo that in a heartbeat. So, likely, just the detention facility so that it can look good on paper, give him something to brag about, but really have no value. Then, when Trump reopens it, you can have all of the protests and people claiming he's going to put American citizens there, which, sadly, some of you have advocated for. No American citizens should ever be detained there. Americans get a fair trial, as speedy as possible. I don't care if we like them or not.

What do you mean "you people"... 🤣

I've honestly thought GITMO Detainees need to be imprisoned somewhere besides GITMO, especially after all of this time. I understood the immediate needs when it was opened and the isolated location was needed, but it has been over 20 years. The fact that the head count is down to 15 indicates that the detention facility's time has passed.

As for closing the base, that would be a strategic blunder, but I wouldn't put it past any administration to do that.
