...So I go into Americas Tire in North Hollywood today to leave a deposit on a new set of tires for my Ram 2500 today... ...While I'm there I tell them that I have a slow leak on the right front of my Expedition,...how much for a tire repair???... ...The guy tells me no charge... ...Being honest, I said these tires were on the car when I bought it and not a set that I bought from you... ...The guy sad it didn't matter...

...Here's where it gets strange... ...They pull the tire of the car and find a small nail... ...Any regular tire shop would have just plugged or patched it... ...I dont like plugs but would have ok'ed a plug,...as,...although,...the nail was in the tread,...a patch would have been partially on the sidewall... ...They said they would not patch or plug the tire and told me it was because they were concerned for my safety???... ...Huhh???...
...I said OK,...just throw the spare on and I'll get the tire plugged at one of the independent tire shops... ...They said they didn't want me to drive with no spare... ...I said it's only 2 miles... ...Again they tell me we are concerned for your safety???...

...The manager said I will look for a loaner tire... ...I said I don't need a loaner tire... ...And started arguing with him... ...He then insisted that he put a new tire on so I wouldn't be driving without a spare???... ...He said ther is no charge, it's free... ...Again Huhh???... ...About this time it dawned on me,...why am I arguing with a guy who is giving me a new tire free of charge???... ...I told him I would return it as soon as I got my original tire plugged... ...He in turn says,...not necessary,...it is yours to keep... ...WTF???...

...Granted Americas/Discount Tires has done me great over the years,...but never a free tire... ...Has anybody ever heard of such a thing???...

Chances are that tire had the Americas warranty AKA "Certs" left over from the previous owner.
I always buy the warranty and it's paid off in the long run.

...Looks to me like they rotated the tires as the new tire that should have gone on the front is now on the back... ...It's dark out but I can see that they put chrome valve stem caps on... ...I will look tomorrow to see if they replaced all the valve stems???...

...Another thing I forgot to mention is that the tires I ordered for my Ram Diesel will be carry outs... ...They will not mount them as they are one size over what the factory recommends???... ...The reason I had to buy this set of tires is that earlier I let them talk me into putting the highest tread tires from the current set on the rear... ...4X4,...the fronts wear faster... ...With the good tires on the front I would have been able comfortably pull one more trip up and back, to my place up north out of that set... ...Now I have 2 tires with good tread and 2 with about an eighth of an inch of tread left???... ...Usually I am not talked into these kind of deals but this tire shop is a few blocks north of the NO HO Arts District and some of the women who come in for tires have been drop dead georgeous and very easy to talk to... ...Very very distracting...:thumbsup

Not true at every store... My Costco installed oversize tires for me and has also done it for family members.

The corporate policy is OEM only (per my BIL who runs the tire center at a Costco store), but often you can find employees who will do it.
My BIL will do it if the customer knows what he's talking about. But a lot of knuckleheads will come in and make ridiculous requests for oddball tires.

...So on with the, they wouldn't fix the tire, saga... ...Ten dollars later and Tony's Tire patched my original tire, mounted and balanced it... ...I just discoverd my spare appears as new...so with the new tire from Americas and my new appearing spare,...when it comes time for tires on the Expedition I will only have to buy 2... ...Of course the 2 will have to be different brands to make sure none of em match??? ...

What I have found is it all depends on who you get when you order the tires. I have had 35's installed on my Jeep at Discount tire but have had other stores hang to the original size rule...

Discount Tire, and I will continue to do so. They go out of their way to help me every time I go into their store. They replaced some 2 year old tires (I bought from them) for sidewall cracking, and only charged for the 'new warranties' on each. ...Havasu Discount tire treated me incredibly well for trailer tires for my Spectra 24... ...Americas Tire in Chico Ca has taken good care of me...and...over the years Americas Tire on Topanga Canyon Bl in Woodland Hills has taken care of my every oddball whim... ...But my 97 yr old mother lives about 2 miles from the new North Hollywood store... ...Since I am at her house taking care of her it made sense to me to try and work it out with the North Hollywood store... ...I think they finally get where I'm coming from with all my cars boats trailers and motorhome... ...I priced the tires for my truck at Topanga first... ...They immediately went to the best deal possible... ...It took some dancing and explaining to the North Hollywood store but they finally were at the deal Topanga offered me... ...I just hope in the future they will just cut to the chase and skip the dance... ...I am not a overly paid Hollywood actor like many of their customers...

...So my truck tires came in to Americas Tire today ... ...I imediately took them up to Tony's Tire in Sun Valley... ...$40 mounted and spin balanced,...(sorry Carl all the weights to the inside...lol)... ...While I was there I watched them sell and install 3 sets of new high end truck tires...and probably 10 used tires... By volume they may sell more than Americas???...There was a waiting line out into the street???... ...I gave my 2 most worn tires to them... ...They will most likely get at least $50 for the both of them installed... ...Good for them...

...Sure has been fun milking a thread over a nail in a tire...
