Would is be dumb to get a Howard deck with a 502 HO? I am considering this as it is Just for the family and going to a merc racing 520 dramatically increases the insurance. I am thinking for resale in the future it may not be the best call.

8.2 is acceptable. 6.2 would be stupid though...lol. If I maya suggest, go for DTS option and upgrade to B1xr so in future an upgrade to 540 / 565 will be simply plug and play. My .02

The 502HO would be fine in my opinion. You buy what you can afford. Great boat and it will run well. Talk to Gene and he will guide you in the right direction.

The 502 package is a good solid engine and will be very reliable.

Depends what you are using it for, sounds great. Nothing wrong with a really well built boat with reliable power.
