Had my crew of guys working on a cellular technology upgrade to Allegiant Stadium for 9 long months to prepare for SB, and finally in the home stretch! We worked through all the holidays, Thanksgiving, Xmas and New Years to get this done, approximately 29k man hours! Verizon, AT&T and TMobile all upgraded their 4G and 5G presence in the stadium and on the site with Verizon doing the most out of the 3. So much work and money spent behind the scenes that people don't realize. I did the initial installation of this system when Allegiant was built, and very proud of the continued work my guys are capable of. Few pics that really don't scratch the surface, but something to think about when watching the game between the Ravens and Niners 😁

1706285630086.png

4G antennas suspended from the roof structure, 29 on initial construction, added 16 more inside, and 17 more outside on the exterior of the building. For size reference, the one in the middle is about 7' in diameter and weighs approximately 600 lbs, and has 48 individual antennas inside the fiberglass housing

1706285722552.png

These are all the radios that transmit and receive for just this one section of the large suspended antennas, I custom made these brackets to hang them at a 45 degree angle to save space, each radio is a little under $10K. So this one section is almost $700K in equipment! This is why your cell phone bill is so expensive!
1706286004109.png

Everything installed to the roof structure has to be done with rigging and rope techs

1706287325513.jpeg

Every single antenna has a specific elevation, tilt, roll, and azimuth and must be documented
1706287938455.png

The whole system is on Digital Electricity, with a separate building UPS with generator backup.

1706288163530.png

Generator backup, and another antenna to serve the field area outside the building

1706288325771.png

4 sections on the north end of the building where we removed the metal panels, and are adding antennas in to the structure which will be covered by custom fiberglass panels

WOW!!!

You're correct, average person has no idea, me included what goes into these projects.
Thnaks for sharing.

GREAT looking work BTW.

actually this installation is simple compared to other large venue distributed antenna systems. mainly becasue its very much an "open space" project.

as an example, the Venetian Palazzo property has seven THOUSAND antennas spread throughout it. this is only for cell phone coverage, then they have additional antennas for thier in house radio network and wifi.

yes, the infrastructure for a high speed seamless connection is staggering and most never see it.

There are almost 220 5G antennas throughout the building and on the site, these are the ones you have to be careful around, they will cook you. 5G millimeter wave frequencies do not pass through the human body as normal cell frequencies do. The body will absorb these.

These are Verizon and AT&T 5G (the upper section)on the site, they have to be mounted at specific elevations for power levels to be safe. We have 14 of these poles on the site which have a fiberglass cover when in use so they are all stealthy. Every suite in the building and all concourses have this technology.

Wow, seriously impressive and many thanks for sharing. 👍

With that sentiment of good will extended, moving on ---- I hope to F*ck I'm not paying for this bullshit through any of my services.
As one of the remaining analog hold-outs, I protest even the thought of subsidizing the non-essential habit of all the phone-a-holics of the world. 🤯🤬👿

I would not call it simple. I have also just completed the Cosmopolitan and Aria DAS systems for another integrator, and the engineering involved is not even in comparison. No where else in Vegas has the MatSing lens antennas (the big black antennas) other than Vegas Ballpark (they have 1), we installed 62 at Allegiant.

safe to assume this is the latest in technology of a beam forming antenna.

for those not into cell phone tech, a beam forming antenna is really multiple antennas in a single box (or globe in this case). these antenna are able to "laser beam" focus their RF output to very specific areas, minimizing interference to the cell network. when i left that world the best we had was a 12 sector antenna....sounds like these are 48. how tech marches on.

Actually these are a Lens antenna, perform better than beam forming, link below if you are a cell nerd like myself to read about them

My question why would the initial system not be able to handle the super bowl? is there that many more people there? or raider nation is not that big to fill the place up?

ahhh marketing people calling it a Lens. when you look at the specs its all given in beam gain, beam frequencies etc.
its based upon the lumberg lens technology of old but has new tech in it that allows for these lens antennas to be lighter and used in cellular tech. its fascinating stuff what matsing has been able to do. no beam forming in these bad boys...

even though the stadium is relatively new, construction and engineering was probably 10+ years ago. cell phone technology moves at a MUCH faster pace then that. so i can see where venues like this already need upgrades.

The initial system could handle it, but there are newer technologies in the C-Band frequency range and 5G now that were not incorporated during initial build.

I believe it was a company called Valmont. I excluded that out of my scope, more of a glaziers specialty to install them.

I think the cell guys just bumped the computer nerds off their roost.

What in the hell are you guys talking about lol 😄

Geesh

Awesome in every way, thanks for posting it up.

it would be interesting to know how many terabytes of data get streamed from that event in total. Or would be larger than terabytes. Petabytes perhaps?? thanks for sharing the pictures. Amazing.

@81Sprint which contractor are you with?
Same question from me. I was with Ericsson running the TMO. Mods project in Vegas the last 6 years, until they decided to stop spending money. Maybe I know you.
( very clean looking install)

T Mobile or some cell provider, has been very busy for months. The Wi Fi is throughout the stadium neighborhood. Our warehouse is just 2 blocks away, view from our front door. Busy times.

I've been with The Morse Group for 7 years, before that with Fisk Electric for 21 years and active IBEW since '95. We probably have crossed paths, I have been doing DAS since 2008 specifically. Had my hands in most of the properties on the strip at one point or another. The stadium is my flagship though, hotels are easy but this one took some creativity!

You are probably referring to the small cells being installed on the street poles, they are not WIFI but Cell 4G and 5G mainly. They are ALL over Vegas, tons of them down the center of the strip, they supplement the big Macro towers to provide more coverage. 5G is everywhere now.

Got it but I could tell you this I could stand with my iPhone on our front doorway and on Wi-Fi. It shows allegiant stadium Wi-Fi connection. I believe it’s via T-Mobile but I’m not there now and worry about two blocks away.
Not too many years ago. Cell coverage on the strip sucked. It was beyond terrible now it’s greatly improved..

I have a Verizon 5G box in my condo on the 16th floor. My only issue is now and then the band goes down in the television streaming is just so so I’ve called them it’s improved but it’s definitely not 100% all the time.

Ya if your close you will see the stadium WIFI, there are WAPs on most of the light poles in the parking lot. They are a major PITA during the summer, the heat cooks them.

I shoot another video and update this thread on Monday, but the amount of equipment being brought in and semi has been going on for weeks. It’s absolutely insane.

Can't wait to hear everyone complain how rough the new bridges are.

Those lots around the stadium have really filled up with tents and trailers and all kinds of stuff. They've been out there for probably a month already.
Crazy amount of setup involved. The NFL basically took the stadium over on the 8th of January. Even brought in their own security team. We all have to be finished by next Friday, then it locks down pretty much until the game.

Yes it is. Won’t catch me on one, the guys washing the exterior windows tipped one over fully extended right after the stadium opened. Walked in the morning it happened, they had to cut it up to remove it from the plaza. No bueno! Have pictures of it somewhere
