That’s f’n crazy..

I remember One of my dads friends had an Allison powered flatly in Parker named “Cream Puff” I think his last name was Olson.. first name Bill maybe?

There was a guy that used to bring a giant Patterson flat to the LA Boatshow that had an Allison in it.. Boat was amazing.

I think they Ran that same boat at marine stadium in Long Beach and missed the turn and it ended up on the rocks right in front of us.

I'd be curious to know what all the wizardry on the back of the engine in the first pic is.
They use to do some crazy stuff with these engines.

Cream Puff was a Rayon Craft. Stunning boat from the pics I saw. I would LOVE to take her for a spin and just hear that engine at full song. I THINK they had it down in San Diego at some museum not that long ago.

...I’m not 100% sure but I think that was Patterson himself driving the boat when it went into the rocks... he made it right ...he fixed the boat for the ...at that time owner...

Most of what you see towards the rear, I believe, is a huge centrifugal super charger setup...and some big fuel pumps

It's a giant 2 barrel Stromburg carburetor and a centrifugal supercharger. Standard stuff on the V-1710.

Yes John Fell I believe is still the owner. President or manager of Buddy Barr Castings. I was fortunate to ride in it at one of our V-drive socials in Parker years ago. Four of us in the front bench seat.

Cream Puff was Rudy's personal race boat (one of many over the years). John Fell acquired and restored it in the mid 90's. The Patterson was restored by Mike Leach and went back east some years ago.

No shit that movie actually brought tears to my eyes several times.
I went to the premier at the APBA HQ street party, the whole street in front of the theater was old school gold cup boats. Was a great day talking with the guys that raced and kept those boats up.

This is the most successful of the Allison powered drag boats.
The name of it was “Sugar”.
Hull was a Sanger and driven by factory Sanger Shoe, Larry Schwabenland.
This boat ran 157mph.
I believe the boat was painted from the original blue to bright red as shown in the last 2 pictures.
That’s Swabbie on the deck.

Taking an internet strut down the long gone yesterday's of Allison and Merlin powered Unlimited Hydroplanes, I was surprised to learn, there's one Methanal powered Allison monster still competing.
U-3 Go3 Racing is back to racing the circuit and bringing back some of the excitement lost when the Turbines took over.

Cool article on the boat and team here ---

And some more here --- Go Go3 !!!!!!!!! Now that would be fun watching him roar past and take the win over the Turbines, but I'm going to guess that any success is probably more likely due to turbine attrition. With that written, I have read that a proper Allison boat can be faster to accelerate out of the turns, but staying ahead seems to be the problem.
