That may be generally true but W always had fighters in the air when he was flying in and out of Waco. AF1 was parked right outside my hangar every time. There were hundreds of men on the ground and snipers on the rooftops.

Reagan came to my High School in the 80's and I don't recall seeing fighters in the air but there were lots of guys on the ground. They landed the Marine helos in the school field...pretty cool! I had already joined the Marines on the pre-enlistment program.

Same here - the fighters were far, far away with no AF1 in sight.
I heard military jets, then looked up and saw a couple of F-somethings. I thought it was weird, but 15 minutes later the President landed at either Brubank or LAX...then it all made sense.
