Not 100% but, fuck wakeboard boats.
I am not going to put too much on here, but we were in the area, the timelines line up, and there were 3 BIG boats that passed through this area at about the same time. That said, I am not a proponent for/against wake boats, but in this case I do not think they were the cause...... Just my .02Not 100% but, fuck wakeboard boats.
I'm not here to speculate. But I will say, to your point I didn't run accross too many wake board boats this weekend but man there was a lot of MASSIVE cruisers shoveling water.I am not going to put too much on here, but we were in the area, the timelines line up, and there were 3 BIG boats that passed through this area at about the same time. On a busy boating day, numerous wakes, often large are the rule more than the exception in that unprotected area.
Yeap. On Mead that shit is the norm in the big areas.
Mead during certain weather can dish up some of the ugliest water I've ever encountered and that includes 25 years of ocean sportfishing
Yes, and thus the not 100%. Granted, big boats at speed don't hold a candle to a full ballast, tug boat, rollbar wake.I am not going to put too much on here, but we were in the area, the timelines line up, and there were 3 BIG boats that passed through this area at about the same time. I may have seen pics of it. Catastrophic is the exact word to describe it. Never seen anything like it. Still hard to process it all........These boats usually float nose up in the water, this one sunk to the bottom on the lake it had catastrophic damage. Maybe not 50 but 30-40 Is still damn high. Sad deal.
There was a video posted that got pulled off Facebook right away. The boat didn’t go 50’ in the air. It got pulled before I could really watch it to make a better guess at what might have happened.

Then stay off Powell , tour boats 8’ + wake 5000 wake boatsYeap. On Mead that shit is the norm in the big areas.
Yes out in the big basin after the narrowsMead during certain weather can dish up some of the ugliest water I've ever encountered and that includes 25 years of ocean sportfishing

yes we deal with the big cruiser and yachts a lot up on the delta either grab your balls take line and catch a little air or tap out and putt thru the wakes.Cruisers can put off some massive wakes Wicky.. Especially when they are kind of half on plane like most of them usually are.

My worst day on Mead ---- on my honeymoon in 83' .Yes out in the big basin after the narrows
I think that was the same time we had a HB on mead we had water running down the hallway in the front out the back Powell is the worst I have ever seen , but never did worry in my 28’ heat we just road it out and then started the party overMy worst day on Mead ---- on my honeymoon in 83' .
Jacked up that houseboat real good running in beam seas crossing the Overton arm with a monsoon blowing due north up the arm. The winds were howling, wave height had built up extreme, but worse the spacing was so close they were back to back it seemed. I told my wife to just hide, because the cabinets were falling off, shower doors, I mean this rocking POS was falling apart before our eyes
I'm amazed we didn't lose a pontoon or both, lol
I knew I had to come into Echo marina hot or be blown down the lake sideways. There certainly wasn't a chance in hell, I wanted to hit those seas head on should I miss, so hot it was
The attendant's eyes, who was waiting to "Catch us" (Yeah right, lol) kept growing larger as I'm coming in full fuckin tilt. No worries I thought, my plan was come in hot, then the last second throw her hard in reverse and impress the shit outta this guy who's now shitting his pants and frantically waving slow down, slow down ---- great plan, hold my beer, I've got this ---- errr, with one minor exception, as I made my move into reverse, the pig stalled
Fuck me, now I'm shittin my pants, crankin it for all it was worth, nothing, nada, nope, it was going to make me look like shit, well that and maybe take out a dock arm, lol
The attendant didn't know if he should run or stay, he was kind going both directions at once, now waving his arms in a total frenzy ----- and here I am in the wheelhouse, both arms raised in the universal sign of, dude, we're so fucked ---- "Oh honey, grab something and hold on real tight"
Amazingly, that big rockin pig decelerated pretty damn quick and planted it's nose against the slip with some serious authority. But the attendant, although rocked, stayed on his feet, nothing was damaged --- well other than the interior in shambles, but that wasn't my fault --- and yeah, I walked off that bitch like "Fuck yeah, I'm bad", lol
As we were hauling our crap off it, I watched three others attempt to dock and all three ended up being blown down the bay and struggled for another hour or so to finally get em tied up.
Later that night while in the safety of our Echo Bay hotel room, we watched a squall hit that pretty much destroyed the marina. The next morning it looked like a tornado had passed through.
So yup, Mead has weather alrighty
The reports of the boat flying 50’ in the air are false. My friend was the first boat on the scene, they were videoing the boat as it ran past them at speed. It crashed about 3 seconds after it passed them off his port side. The boat was running hard, caught a roller that caused the whole boat to catch about 2’ of air. Looked very controllable at first. It re-entered the water flat, but listing slightly to the starboard side. It then bounced to the port sponson, still running straight and flat, but then bounced back to starboard and this time hooked hard and rolled while spinning out. Boat came to a violent stop as it rolled, it was a very bad crash.
Nobody is sharing the video so please do not ask.
Not talking shit at all, so please don’t take it as disrespect. But someone did post this video as I just saw it on Instagram.

Just curious why you think it should not be seen.Well that’s unfortunate if they did, but my feelings are that it shouldn’t be circulated

Out of respect for those who just died, and for the gal who is fighting for her life in the hospital.Just curious why you think it should not be seen.

Anytime the water conditions are bad, blame a wake boat. Anytime there’s a shooting, blame the gun. Noted.
fuck wakeboard boats

At a buck 50 there is really not a lot of time to react.40M its easy. It's all about reading the water.....sometimes at speed you need to do it 500-1000 yards in advance.
Bullshit. At 150 you are covering a foot ball field every 1.5 seconds or soAt a buck 50 there is really not a lot of time to react.40M its easy.

. You learn to look way in advance.
Huge difference between a 19' and a 35'. Although you learn how to read the water at those speeds regardless of what size the boat.I've been winging my little 19' on the river...all was well...and then I feel I little bump..then another and next thing I know there's a line of 'em. I have no idea how tall they were, but I can tell you I was out of the throttle and the whole damn boat was dry within less than a second. I look way ahead...and so does my passenger...nobody saw a fucking thing except smooth water.
By no means do I know what the speed was.Just putting the difference in perspective for those who don't know.I have not heard the speed of the crash......his speed pass was 158'ish...... that should not be confused with the crash speed.
For a six-foot tall person, the horizon ( arc of the Earth) is a little more than 3 miles. STFU Dumb ass. It's all about reading the water.....sometimes at speed you need to do it 500-1000 yards in advance.
I'm not here to speculate. But I will say, to your point I didn't run accross too many wake board boats this weekend but man there was a lot of MASSIVE cruisers shoveling water.
