I put in a 12 hour day today working on various loose ends.

I finished the battery charger install. The charger is a 40 amp three bank unit made by Xantrax. These units are the best chargers I have found. They have different charge profiles for AGM (absorbent glass mat), VRLA (valve regulated lead acid) and flooded cell. The charger has three different ambient temperature settings so the charge current can be adjusted for differing conditions or seasonal changes. It can also be fitted with a remote temp sensor that automatically tailors the charge.

This unit comes with a thirty some page manual that fully explains all issues about battery charging, and between the knowledge gained reading and the features of the product my batteries have lasted for years in my other boats with this charger.

The charger costs over $400 new.....pretty spendy. I buy factory refurb units on eBay and usually pay around $130 for them.

I also finished up all of the battery cabling and installed some battery boxes.

The only thing left to do before installing the engine is putting in the waste holding tank. I bought a new one, the original had been permeated and was stinkin' pretty bad.

The engine was in good running condition when I took it out. I did the normal tuneup stuff on it. I did a leakdown test on the engine, all eight cylinders tested at less than 20%. Pretty good for a 14 year old enjum.

The engine has a Weber square bore carb on it, and my days of screwing around with AFB style carbs are long past. I sent it to National Carburetor in Georgia for a rebuild, $220.00. They test it for vacuum leaks and run it on an engine before shipping it back. A good deal IMO.

So here are some more photos, I hope the next ones you see are of a 454 Merc sitting in the hole.

I use that same charger, it works great. Just plug in and you're done.
