I was originally set to remove and replace a flimsy floorboard. Once the board was removed, I realized further hidden damage to the stringers. I opted to go with the less evasive route and choose to surgically (sort of) cut out the rotted local sections and splice in fresh vertical cut doug fir.

I used the old cut out sections as a template to fab the replacement splices. There were four rotted sections in the two stringer configuration were the seats were bolted with lag bolts. After duplicating the replacement sections, I sanded and prepped each, using strips of mat glass and resin. I layed up the area using duct tape to act as a sealer along the vertical sides of the stringer not allowing the resin to leak out the sides, then applied top pressure by weighing it down with the battery.

Later sanded and routed the edges and fully glassed the repaired stringers. I pulled out all the old water saturated foam and added two more bulkheads for structural support in lieu of the foam. Shaped and sealed/glassed a new piece of marine ply. The new board is rock solid and expect this repair to last another 20 years (hopefully).:D

Does your Schiada have a skeg under it? Or are those nuts on the floor towards the transom for something else? I've never seen an outboard with a skeg before that's why I ask.

Good job on the demo. And tell your dad good job on the fix. lol!

Yes, what you see there are the mounting bolts for the skeg. It came with the boat when I bought it used. However, the leading edge of the skeg had hit something because a good part of the forward half of the skeg was missing which evidently changed the handling dynamics of the boat. The boat was ill handling while in a hard turn, it would grab and hook. During the floorboard repair, I replaced it (Rex Marine, Vee Base Crusier Fin PN 242-139). Problem solved! Now the boat rails in the turns. For this application, I would recommend the fin as it made a significant change for the better. :champagne:

Nicely done. Is that the outboard Schiada that was for sale on the 126 in Fillmore a while ago? Drove by it a few times and wondered who was going to sneak away with that one.

Must be nice "working" on your boat while it is on a lift in the marina.

Hmm... interesting. Mine can rail pretty damn well through the turns but if you catch a little bit of a wave that might pick up the transom.... it'll hook sooo hard that Ive almost threw a couple people out.

Nope. Must be its sister. I've had this one for about 5 years. Pick it up from a guy in Westminster / Santa Ana area. Re-powered with a 225 HO E-tec now runs like a striped ape!

The boat sits on a hydro hoist on the lagoon here in San Diego. It's isolated from the ocean so we can't go out, but the ocean boats can't come in either. My place is right there on the water. Can't beat it!

How fast does your boat run with the 225. I am talking to a guy with a 20' Schiada OB that needs a motor and am interested what would be best to put on it.

It runs low 70s with one person. It could use some prop work, a chopper would help out quite abit. we have been really happy with it though.
