Being my accountant wont allow me to do a motor swap, I’m stuck with the ugly 496. I’ve actually found a few things like the custom cowlings cover and coolant cover but wanting the motor to less blah.
So far i have and or am in the middle of adding
Custom Cowlings motor cover, coolant cover, and computer cover. Also a Teague drive fluid reservoir, oil filter cover and now Dana polished headers.
Looking to find a polished coolant recovery reservoir cap and maybe a few other lil things.

Let’s see your 496!!!!

But the hatch is usually closed, I never see mine unless I'm retrieving a fender.

...that said, the Mag engine cover looks like crap compared to HO

Not from what I've seen, I'll see if I can dig up a pic of mine, it's the Mag.

What’s the Horizon motor, what is salt water sealed? I know all of the 496’s are closed cooling.

edit: I read up and see that Horizon and Sea Core are salt water a, beyond that I don't have anything. I also found an image of the black HO engine cover with just "Magnum" and no HO. I just assumed the black cover was HO and mine was Magnum. I'm looking forward to learning more.

That is actually the Horizon motor from what I’ve read, and that cover comes with mag or HO on those set ups. I wanna think the gray covers are salt water sealed.

Uh, no.

Call alexi and do a billet pulley system. Add some Dana headers and then as far as you want to go. TCM makes a nice billet power steering pump reservoir and other things.

I had a carbon fiber one that looked pretty sweet. I sold it to "nowski" on the boards. I wish I could buy it back now that I have another 496 boat.

It still looks pretty sweet, Thanks Greg... It was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely wife on one of the happiest days of your life, the purchase of that Sweet Eliminator Daytona. I'm just glad I wasn't there when you sold it, I hate seeing grown men cry...

If those are still available pick them both up. I'm sure Grads will take the other one...

I actually contemplated offering them 200$ for both then trying to make a dollar on them but have had way too much going on. I already have the CustomCowlings cover on mine. Should have updated pic in the next week or so with the rest of the blings

I agree that the 496 is pretty ugly. I've been looking for a pulley kit for a while. I spoke to the guys at CP Performance at the LA boat show. They have the idler pulleys, alternator and power steering pump. I'm making progress on my little by little. I put a little bling with polished intercooler up top and I had my Mercruiser risers polished. I checked into the DANA exhaust as well as CMI and I was told that it doesn't make that much difference for the 496 if you stay under about 600 hp. The stock exhuast flows pretty well. The question that I am wrestling with is whether to put more into the 496 and take it up to 650HP or just save up for the 600sci???

Besides all the boat bling this is one bling item that will not only make a difference but will save you money down the road. Gen 7 stainless water pump. Contact Hardin-Marine / CP Performance for more info... View attachment 615000
This was one of the first upgrades that I did. Definitely worth it!!

Amsoil or Lucas, Hardin pump, Ngk iridium plugs, and Wix filters are the only mods you need for a nice healthy happy 496.

You can run the standard V-power plugs also. Just change them every 50-60hrs. The water pump saves you over time. Just pull, new plates, impeller and reinstall it.

They don't all have to be ugly. This was the first one I built for my 22 Daytona. 655hp, ran about 100mph. I sold it to build bigger.

See I’d love to do new valve covers and the relocation of all the bs like yours with the blower but cannot find the kits to move everything.
Raylar only says they have a pcm relocation bracket.
Who dipped your tank that looks bad add too
I had a local hydro dip guy do the tank. He did a bunch of stuff on the new motor and was very reasonable on price. That was a Raylar coil relocation kit. It seems like i figured out that the ls1 relocation stuff would work. The valve cover stuff is just some stick on stainless with their name on it.

Dang, I remember this motor being up for sale. I wanted this thing so bad!!
That motor went to a guy in I think Washington state. One of the Dana manifolds had a crack later in life, filled the motor with water and blew it up. I think Dana ended up paying him for new parts.

When Pedro is done fixing my uh oh it’s going to E-Ticket for stainless S pipes, was going to have my buddy do them but having them done ON the boat for not too much more i feel is worth it, then I’ll get home and get rest on the motor

So, they still make the air filter?
No they don’t. I just got lucky and made a post on the Facebook on the right day and found one guy with the hp500 base and Teague face and another guy with the 496 base and Vortech face so bought both to get what i desired lol. Now gotta sell the hp500 one to recoup a lil $

FYI the coolant reservoir on the 496 uses a ford cap, so probably a ford coolant tank as well. Went and bought a new cap at Orielly’s today for 7$ to verify that!! And the reason i say this is i was able to find a polished billet coolant reservoir cap cover as well that way. Should be here Friday!! Just a simple clean bling that meant i didn’t have to buy the one from Customcowling.com that they want 200$ for the three caps.

Was only 40$ and i think it’ll be super sexy on my blue reservoir cover.
