All it takes is a few nervous nellies to touch their brakes and set off the brakelight snowball. I've witnessed roads dwindle to a crawl for absolutely no reason other than brake lights.

Yup that and the selfish ones who have to merge at last second cause they need to pass three cars then hit the brakes to slow down or they force others to brake too.

Been through other one lane parts where everyone merged early sure went from 70 to 50-55 but we kept moving steady.

It was getting ugly when we went through about an hour and half earlier but that’s really slow.

We left at 8:15 and took a 45 minute hit over it.

I passed a guy on rice road last night at about 80 and he gave me the bird.
Rice rd was surprisingly not very busy last night. I only had a handful of people pass me while I was towing my 5th wheel home.

Damn 2 hours i would be so pissed for not staying another day lol
I tried the goffs cut off, but it was closed due to rain. I almost went back and put my boat in the water for the afternoon, BUT I had a 8:30 am meeting I needed to be in person for.

It was a shit show in every direction yesterday. We left Needles around 11:30 ish and were planning to take 40 to Searchlight and cutting through at Geoffs but that was closed. Ended up staying on the 95 through Nipton/Searchlight to the 15 where it was bumper to bumper as well. We were within 15 minutes from home and there was another acccident in Moorpark on the 23.... I think we ended up getting home around 6:00, it was a long day of travel and even worse when you are ired and hungover!

I’m fairly certain those road closed signs have been the same ones there for years. You can make it through there if need be. You just need to be a bit adventurous

Left North Havasu at 4:45 , took rice road because I had to drop Grandkids in Yucaipa. Wide open the whole way. Did pass a few on rice road doing 80 but didn't see any birds

Was everything still passable around the old bridges?

There’s a short bypass that gets you around that traffic bottle neck and back on the 40. That’s what I used Sunday, but just one set of road closed signs.

The bridges are still gone out there with the down and around bypasses. I go through there to visit sunflower spring every now and then. I’m not sure what the bypasses look like after the rain though.

The road to goffs was open a few years ago. I don't think it was from the bridges. This is the one off the 95 on the way to Vegas. The signs looked brand new, but I could be mistaken.

There’s some confusion in the thread and people are confusing the two roads. Goffs road (connects the 95 to the 40, on the north side of the 40), was closed because of the rain and subsequent damage.

National trails highway is the other road that’s getting mixed up, and has been closed permanently for years.

Taking goffs to the 40 does nothing. Taking mountain springs off the 40 to explore ancient ruins on the way to 29 palms eliminates the construction zone. Timing is everything. We took the 40 all the way back today with no slowdown.

It would have cut off about 2/3 of the back up. I used to take it when they were working on the other bridges a few years back. One memorial day the wife left an hour before me and I got on the 40 in front of her. 😂

On second thought.... You are right. It saves nothing. No one think about taking it please.
