My job today at lagoon. I wanted to work but cops were not having it. On Park Dr and wind was wrapping the smoke and embers around the docks. I really thought for a bit our jobsite might burn. Went from small and managable to get the fuck out in about 10 min. Luckily everything on out site is ok. Neighbors got dumped with retardant. They will definitely need new paint. Fire and police did a great job!!

Thumbs up for promptly getting air units on the San Elijo and Carlsbad fires despite the challenging wind conditions.
I was upwind of both, but knew what that sound was as the tankers flew over coming from Ramona.

It's frustrating that any follow up reports on the "Why" of so many area fires rarely seems to be revealed, or reported. Would seem that "Spontaneous combustion" along with "Shit" just happens.

Unless it's like that guy who was starting all those fires for a few years by Lake Wohlford, while driving home from the Valley View Casino after he'd lose. They allowed him to continue to start fires for several years as they patiently gathered surveillance evidence.

Dawn Ann Crawford, 49, was taken into custody in the 100 block of Rancho Santa Fe Road in San Marcos about 12:45 p.m. in connection with the three fires, two of which were put out before they could grow large enough to pose serious threats, according to Carlsbad police.


Crawford is suspected of setting the fires over a roughly hour-long period Wednesday afternoon, Lt. Kevin Lehan said. One of them erupted about 2:30 p.m. in a canyon off Park and Sunnyhill drives and swept rapidly up slopes toward rows of hillside residences.


The other two fires allegedly sparked by Crawford that day — one near Tamarack Avenue and Interstate 5, the other southeast of site of the major blaze, near El Camino Real — were small and promptly extinguished, Lehan said.

She was being held on $500,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Feb. 19.
