Thoughts on the value or hammer price of this? I've wanted one since I was a little kid. I love that it is manual. I'll have to scratch the itch at some point and would prefer not spending a ton. I know it will be a 1-2 year fling.

There is a great shop for this type of car that may have a good idea of what they are worth:

Is Terry still going? Years ago he had the baddest, red, 3 window coupe. Body had been a survivor, chopped heavy. He built it as a full fendered ride...damn I loved that car. He sold it some years back, dunno where it landed.

@lakemadness , as a guy that used to mess with those kinds of cars quite a bit, I'd ask who's body it was, as some are quite a bit better build than others. Also, who's chassis, and if boxed, how far forward and rear. The original frames had none, but the bodies flexed quite a bit. The doors with original latches could move around, and the cowl kind of clamped over the firewall. If the chassis is only boxed to the cowl, sometimes the support rods can start stress cracking on the fiberglass firewalls. If the rear isn't sturdy enough, cracking starts at the bottom corners of the door jambs.

A 5spd and a 350 in a 32 is a blast to drive. May not be the fastest thing you've driven, nowhere near it, but it's really fun.

There was a guy on RDP I think from Havasu that sold one on RDP a few years back. He was asking about 34k, but I think he sold when he dropped into the mid to hi 20's, it seemed every bit as clean as this one. Even as detailed as that ad is, it's still very hard to tell if it's really built right, like monkeyswrench points out. My take on the test drive is it's stiff, small and a little hard to drive and probably as a few rattles, but I could be way off Base.

Tons of these on the market due to the demographic aging out or passing away.

My father just built one (Over the course of 37 years!) - Contracted it out to a custom builder. It was an original steel bodied car from '34, the one for sale appears to be a new kit car (Fiberglass)

Something like that, nice driver quality? Could probably be had for $50K. Custom build? $100K-$150K depending.

Interesting take I hadn't thought of, generational shift maybe? Seems like street rods in the last few years have come down but muscle cars have skyrocketed.

Two comments.

That is a glass body and not steel.

It is a dealer so you will have to pay sales tax most likely when you go to register it. So figure another 10 percent on top of the total bid and commission.

About a year and a half ago I came real close to buying this '36 Roadster which was a Strokers build. It was for sale on the HAMB a few years after Strokers sold it and the day before we left to get it, even rented a car hauler, I just couldn't pull the trigger. It kept me up all night. Now I regret not getting it. From what I've seen of their build, they did excellent work.

As far as the '32 in the thread, like mentioned above it's fiberglass and personally I can't stand fat tilt steering columns in old cars. Nothing about them looks right.
Just me though.

I would say 40 is a very average , like said earlier must have decent boxed frame and interior for that. I am building same car only with steel brookville body and winters quickchange rear end and I will be 45 k in
Parts.
Model A spring, or coilovers? I always loved the whine of a quickchange. Hated notching or tweaking nice tanks though.

Yes, I'm cool with a glass body. I dont want to spend for a steel body. I have some nice cars I splurged on, this won’t be one. This one is to scratch an itch for a summer, then its gone.

10%? I dont live in Komifornia.

Havasu is just under 10% if it is a dealer. Mohave county and Havasu both have sales tax on dealer sales...... I just paid it on a BaT dealer lies P.I.T.A. sale.

I love 32s and will own one some day rather soon and if this is your dream color, style, engin/trans, ect it is worth whatever you are willing to pay but the honest number is maybe 35K (My semi-informed non professional opinion).

Now factor 2,500 shipping, 3-5K taxes, and a bit for the hastle and lack of ability to inspect in-person..... 25K-28K you can't get hurt to bad. But again... opinions are like assholes and while mine never stink others do.

I’m planning this same build now. Traditional build with a flathead v8. Some inspirational pics I’ve been looking at

Here ya go @Rennsport 🤣 This was the first car I had in my shop building. The only "hot rod" thing done to it was a later model 24 stud flathead...still had mechanical brakes even. I test ran it all over the dirt roads by my house, Bonnie & Clyde style!

The old school looking blue one looks a lot like one that came out of GA a few years back, landed here in AZ, but don't know for sure? If it's the same car, it is hands down, the best "survivor tribute". Right down to the 40's newspapers used in the top.
