The only way to own a yacht is to rent it. That appears a be a beautiful vacation. Don’t be afraid of burning fuel. 😉🍺

Those boats look really nice. Enjoy! Assume they’re bare boat rentals? From which group did you rent them?

Yes, Bare Boat through Marine Max. This boat is the new Aquila 545 which they do not let people Bare Boat typically I guess. We got really lucky. We rented a 443 3 cabin boat, but it had some issues and was going in for some work and was going to delay us departing by a day. Since we had all done bareboat before with them, and I had captained the 484 prior, they offered this to us and said we could bareboat it, no extra charge. Of course we said yes 😉.
This thing has 5 staterooms with private baths plus crew quarters with another bath.

Day 1 on the boat
MM couldn’t get us out until 10:30 am ( they said they would get us out at 8)🙄. Couldn’t get moorings at great harbor on Jost VanDyke, so we had to go over to little Jost at the other end of the island. Cool place, not many people there. Went to Foxys Taboo for some food and adult beverages then back on the boat for dinner and entertainment 😎. This afternoon we’ll head to Great Harbor and hit Corsairs and Soggy Dollar!

Let me know how the Boatyball deal works and how hard it is to reserve a ball if you use it as I am going down on July 13th for 2 weeks.
Also curious as to how busy it is and how available the FCFS balls are as well as the Boatyballs?
Enjoy yourselves and keep posting when you have time !!!!

It's happened to me posting from 3rd world WWW connections too.
🤷‍♂️
It’s not that busy, but some harbors are mostly boaty balls now(cooper and great harbor.) only 5 fcfs balls left in great harbor.

So yesterday we pulled into great Harbor around 1130 I think and the very few FCFS were taken and there were a lot of boaty balls empty, but all showed reserved. This morning we all were able to reserved at 7 AM and there is still 10 or so left. difference between Saturday and Sunday I guess. we cruised over here a little after noon because that’s when check-in/checkout time is.

Day 2 started with a boat ride to Great Harbor. We were all able to reserve BoatyBall moorings in the morning.

Ended up over at Soggy Dollar after a quick and disappointing stop at Foxys.. Got our painkillers from Daytona Babe, and hung out for a couple hours. Always a great place!!

Left Soggy and went to Corsairs for dinner.. All 18 of us 🤪. Then the shit show started 😎

We did this a couple of years ago through the USVI (due to Covid bullshit) but managed to still get over to Jost and Soggy Dollar. Truly hard to describe how great this area is and how beautiful. Have an awesome time!

This x1000. Same reason we’ve never done a house boat.
Same.
We had one planned, but then my BIL (and his wife and kids) and my SIL (her boyfriend and kids) said they would help with cooking, cleaning but could not afford to pay. Flat out said at a family meal when this was getting planned, if you can’t pay your rental share (25% per family) then trip is off. In-laws, my wife and I already agreed we would split food and gas for 10 days for the entire family of 15. I even had a houseboat rental discount since I worked the rental docks during college. Vacation was cancelled.

Then I have the AITA moment.
We do a ski week with the entire family over Christmas (Father in-law started the tradition 29 years ago). However around 5 years ago my wife and I started to pay 50% of the house that is rented. In trade, since we are always the last to arrive, my in-laws hold the second best room with adjoining bath for us. After the first year of paying, my SIL and her new husband stated it was not fair a room was being held for my family. She had no idea I was helping to pay the house rental (she thought papa was paying for all of it). After I arrived and she said she and her new husband are taking the room, I blew up. Told them, you can have my room, I just need a check for $7500 since that is what I paid to help get the 6 bedroom ski in/out house we rented. In-laws finally made them move, and said in the future if you help pay you get the better room. To this day, only my wife and I help pay.

Family, got to love them :)

My problem, I don’t have enough friends or family who 1) I am willing to vacation with for a week and 2) can afford it
We belong to Tradewinds to get our salt water fix. In basic terms, it is a time share in sailboats all over the world.

I have no idea why Paul didn’t go but it had to be for good reason. Your group is always together. Was Ductape invited as well?

ITS WORTH IT.

after just getting back from Hawaii, i will never go back, they have never rolled back most of the covid restrictions. BVI sailing from now on.
It’s crazy. Covid wrecked a lot of things. Businesses fell in love with restrictions that got them out of work. Gov got comfortable letting people do whatever they want, wherever they want, whenever. Hawaii is on the extreme of both. Especially Oahu.
