We have a 2600 stroker VW in our desert car that I am considering doing an ecotec or similar engine swap. What are good channels for listing the engine for sale? Any ideas on value? We have paperwork from previous owner who built the engine with Ronnies Garage/Bustoration.com in Lake Havasu City, but that's about it. Please let me know, thanks for reading.

Lots of good groups on face book. Here's one of my favorite.

type IV engines take a special interest. I’d list it on the Samba or Race Dezert. I’d think a 2.6 would be worth 3-4K. Price depends how exotic the heads, induction, and valve train is.

My last class 5 had a 2.7 LT type IV. Fat was selling them for about 15k, but you could build one for about 8k. Great torque to push a heavy car. I still have a Porsche block, a set of 104mm cylinders, and JE pistons sitting in my shop.

Post the price and details here first, I might know a couple people interested!

How much maintenance does one of these need? I'm might be needing a new motor for my 65 sedan.

Bajastu, did your type IV run warm? It seems like this engine runs way warmer than our previous 1600 and 1914 engines in other cars (Ive seen just north of 220 deg on this car with a remote oil cooler); granted I did not have am oil temp guage in those engines.

I guess I'm also looking for maintenance to NOT include rebuilding and syncing 2 carbs, and just have an engine we can hop in, hit the key and go at varying intervals. Sometimes 1x a week, other times 1x every 4 months.

My type IV didn’t really run hot. I ran a large CBR oil cooler and I actually had to install a thermostat to limit the fan. But running hard in Barstow or Johnson Valley at race speed, it would be 190-210 with an occasional 225-230 spike. Just cruising around not pushing it, 180*. Just install the biggest oil cooler that you can have. I also ran a Porsche 911 cooling fan with custom diffusers on the cylinders. Along with the engine sump, oil cooler, lines, and filter housing, it had about 8.5-9 quarts total.
