Received an interesting situational type letter from GM that some here may want to be aware of.

We (GM) have learned that on your 2024 model year GMC Sierra equipped with Integrated Trailer Brake, if the trailer battery is charged to a higher voltage than the vehicle battery, it may cause the voltage to feed back into the vehicle battery and create a false short to ground. This false short to ground will trigger trailer braking to be disabled. If the condition is alleviated, meaning the trailer battery voltage falls below the vehicle battery voltage, trailer braking will be restored, even within the same ignition cycle.

Your satisfaction with your Sierra is very important to us, so we are announcing a program to prevent this condition or, if it has occurred, to fix it. What We Will Do: Your GMC dealer will replace the trailer braking power module.

This service will be performed for you at no charge until August 31, 2026. After that, any applicable warranty will apply. What You Should Do: Until the repair is completed, please disable the trailer solar panels and/or
generator. After starting your vehicle, and before driving: 1) Ensure that the Trailer Brake Symbol on the control panel is illuminated and that "Check Trailer
Wiring" or "Service Trailer Brake System" is NOT displayed. 2) If these messages appear and/or the Symbol isn't illuminated, please wait until a "Trailer Brakes Connected" message appears, and the Trailer Brake Symbol on the control panel illuminates. 3) This will need to be done whenever you start the vehicle with the trailer connected until the
repair has been performed.

To limit any possible inconvenience, we recommend that you contact your GMC dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for this repair. By scheduling an appointment, your dealer can ensure that the necessary parts will be available on your scheduled appointment date. If you have any questions or concerns that your dealer is unable to resolve, please contact the GMC Customer Assistance Center at 1.800.462.8782 (TTY 711 / 1.800.833.2438).

Every now and then I hit a bump towing a dump trailer and get the "service trailer brakes" and sometimes it just pops up. Stupid thing is it disables the brakes altogether until you restart the.truck. it happens on 2 of my trucks and doesn't Matter which trailer I am towing. You go from brakes to no brakes.

Interesting. I have a 24 Silverado with trailer brake controller. I’ll have to see if I get a letter too.

I just read on GM Authority that some 2024 GM 5.3 engine blocks might be contaminated and engines will need to be replaced. (Guessing like Toyota?) It says GM has a list of Vins for these vehicles, but does not know how many more could be affected? I have no idea how to find out if you’re on the list, especially if Gm does not know either?
