Anybody riding the LA B2V this weekend?

Im off bikes these days, but wife and I will be at the Day 1 finish in Barstow seeing friends on Friday. Her and the kids traditionally are handing out homemade cookies to Fridays finishers.

Is this a dual sport ride? A couple of friends and I rode a B to V protest ride probably over forty years ago on a 1977 YZ 400. It’s a long ride but we had fun! I sold the YZ to a friend who who hardly rode it. I just got it back!

Yes, it’s been a dual sport ride for many years now. BLM won’t give a permit to a hold a ‘race’, but a dual sport ride is simply a ‘tour’ 😉

Thats cool though! I know there were many battles with the BLM and a few protests after the official Race was canceled.

LA / Barstow / Vegas - 2022

District 37 Dual Sport has succeeded in making LA-B-to-V the most famous and longest two-day dual-sport ride in the world. This is the 39th year for the best 400 mile+ dual-sport rides of the year. This year’s tour will start the day after Thanksgiving, using creative routes chosen to Barstow and Las Vegas. Your gear bag will be transported from point to point each day. Large Adventure bikes, vintage bikes, side-hacks, and small displacement bikes are all welcome to join in the fun with the regular dual-sport bikes as long as they are street legal.

After an overnight stop in Barstow, the route continues to The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for the exciting Saturday night Awards Ceremony with a raffle and lots of prizes. Visit the dual-sport message board at www.district37ama.org for updates or to arrange to carpool for the ride.

Make plans now to participate in this fall classic ride!

START Day 1
- Embassy Suites Hotel, Palmdale, CA - Friday, Nov. 25th, 2022

FINISH Day 1 - Holiday Inn / Hampton Inn - Barstow, California

START Day 2 - Holiday Inn / Hampton Inn - Barstow, California - Saturday, Nov. 26th, 2022

FINISH Day 2 - The Orleans Hotel - Las Vegas, Nevada

  • There will be Hors D’oeuvres Saturday evening
  • Garmin GPS tracks available at the event
  • The LABtoV ride is very proud to benefit the Toys for Tots Foundation

The towering gentleman in the center is a man named Rob Robertson. He raced the last official ‘Race’ but made it into Vegas past cutoff and didnt officially Finish.

At 70 something, he came back on a modern bike and rode the whole event. Had the pleasure of meeting him at the banquet, along with a few members of his original support crew who came back to chase and support him. Cool interesting guy.

I thought it was probably a dual sport but I’m glad the tradition is still alive. I would have liked to race BtoV but could never make it happen. We did have fun on the protest ride but we had two places under the freeway crossings that somebody ran some barbwire and wood planks with nails in them to deter us. As far as I know I don’t think anybody got hurt. The Phantom Duck of the desert crew swept the course and found the sabotage before the ride started. It would be great if they could do a race again but will probably never happen with the BLM and the environuts.

I’m not old enough to have done the race, but I’ve ridden the dual sport ride multiple times. My wife Autumn has ridden it as well. Its an adventure.

Love talking with all the old desert racers. The STORIES. Think I was born in the wrong decade.

When I was younger my mom didn’t want me to race as I was an only child. We rode desert a lot and rode with some desert racers and Mx racers. I learned a lot riding with our group and we rode a couple of weekends a month and we would go for day rides at Saddleback Park, Indian Dunes and even a few places in the Long Beach area. These guys made you a better rider if you wanted to keep up. It was a great time for riding but time has taken a lot of our riding areas away and reduced many other areas. I still ride my CRF450 and CR500 but at a slower pace!
