And people always hate on the f350 with the 6.0. Crazy reliable truck if you don't try to make it a hot rod and go for 500,600 hundred HP. I bought mine new and now have 230,000 miles and she pulls my 11,000 lb toy hauler all over the PNW.
I personally just can't see going and buying a $100,000+ "truck".

The Ford dealership that fixed the turbo/exhaust manifold issue on our 3.5 under warranty has an Enterprise rental inside the building. 😂

Most busy dealerships do. Enterprise goes to great legnths to make this happen!

Even at the killer discount rates they give the dealership, they still make money on those deals. 👍🏼

They go to such great lengths to get the rental office in the dealerships because they know have guaranteed business at the Ford stores 🤣

That sucks! And to me the icing on the cake is that thse manufactures make these trucks so difficult to diagnose without a manufacture service tech that doesn’t t know shit! Thats my guess on the ridiculous back logs of service.

I bought my 2022 Ram 3500 HO with the Aisin Transmission because it's supposed to be rock solid and not have the issues of the 68RFE. 11,000 miles and the transmission failed. No forward movement at all. Apparently, this is a very common problem right now as the C clip that hold the 1-4 gears in causes the failure. I had to have mine towed to the nearest dealership in Escondido and have little confidence that I will get it back anytime soon. They literally are so backlogged he said it may be 2 weeks before they can even look at it. If this thing goes 30 days, I'm lemon lawing this thing.

I just wanted to post in case there are others out there that have late model rams. If you do, I would get the premium AAA coverage for a 100 mile tow in case your en route to the desert when it happens to you. View attachment 1211634
Everyone knocks the rotary knob that looks like a giant volume knob.... but my 2021 ram 1500 hasn't failed me yet lol.

My SIL’s 2023 RAM transmission blew up with 700 miles… told him they can’t fix it until June or something 🤣.

A friend of mine picked up his brand new RAM and towed a toy hauler to Glamis. Trans exploded… it had 210 miles on it. Same story, can’t fix it until June..

Fuck Fiat 🤣

Yeah… 🙄. My 2011 Raptor with 172,000 says bullshit.
Odd...but check your wiring harness that goes to the trans and such.... At around 175k on my old one...one of the plastic clips failed and dropped the harness down enough that the exhaust melted it.... created a mess. Guess its something that "can happen" on them.

This isn't hardly a problem. It is for you no question. The air heater grid relay stop/sell recall is a bigger issue for Dodge. I ordered a new truck Oct 20 2022. It got delivered to the dealer over a month ago. They can't sell me the truck because of this recall. It's a nationwide deal. They have no ETA on when the parts will be available to even do the recall. Last I've heard it will be mid April before the parts are available. Go on any forum about Ram diesel and you'll find hundreds of people with the same problem. Special order 2023 $100k truck and it's sitting on the lot waiting for parts.... Oh well....

So yes supposedly a fuckin clip.
mine went out at 12,000.
ramcare will cover a rental. How ever max of 40 a day, a 3/4-1 ton truck costs 120+ per day.
mine took 40 days to replace trans.
5000 out of pocket in rental fees, ramcare reimbursed just over 1000 and basically told me in a round about way fuck off this is most they’ll pay. If I don’t like I’m welcome to sue.

I said fuck it I’m lemon lawing it and they can eat it, nope with Covid delays basically courts say if it’s the transmission only and not multiple times at dealership regardless of time frame no lemon law will be able to be enforced. Basically if your truck is down for months you can’t do shit but sue in small claims

So today Im at 26,000, transmission just shit the bed again. No forward, only reverse, check engine light, bing bong 4wd not avail light, and boom it’s gone No more trans.

Trip number 2 for trans failure, dealer says they have fix now, but depends if trans survived and just needs fix or replace with new trans and add fix.

regardless I’m suing ram/dodge next week once I have details. I wish Patrick in ramcare could be personally liable for partial costs so I could name him personally, marble chewing dumb fuck on the phone.

68rfe trans has a bad reputation, typically most common thing to go out on them is the solenoid. minimal in comparison to full replacement
2018/19 they fixed it
my 2016 2500 had 300k miles on it when I sold it, solenoid went out every 50k, at 180k the trans said it’s last goodbye. Replaced with new and 120k miles w zero issues when sold

Already been down that road. 3 years ago. That exact issue. Ford replaced the harness from the TCM to the trans… and a new “improved” clip 🤣.

Well I guess I better hope for the best. Less than 500 miles and the only time it gets used is to tow the trailer. 3500 Alisin.

Got rid of my 2013 Chevy due to trailer being right at max of what truck could tow.

I use to be a superduty diesel guy back when they were $40k new. Nowadays the cost and all the systems that must be maintained just doesn't make it worth it for me. I've had two F150s with the 5.0 since 2017. Great trucks. Use them and replace after so many miles. Only maintenance is oil and filters change, the occasional tranny service. Add load range E tires, pintle hitch and tow the same as any HD truck out there. 😉

I do have to say the 10 speed is quirky but so far nothing indicating failure issues. In sport mode the shift issues go away. Seems to be a solid truck all around.

Guess I’m never selling the 16 Aisin I have. 185k on the truck with just oil changes and transmission services.

I work and play with my 2500. It's reliability is not just essential its required. Its the reason I bought new.

My 2018 68RFE Failed @ 24k miles. Orange Coast Dodge rebuilt it in shop as Stellantis would not issue an "in crate" rebuild.:mad:
However I was able to secure a Ram 2500 from Enterprise and Ram Care paid for it 100% so I could keep pulling my trailers. This was back in OCT. 2020.

Several new 2019's and up are having Hyd lifter issues also. Heavy EGR sooting the oil and a causing the lifter to pump down.

I purposely went after a 2018 Leftover in May of 2019 to avoid the "New" Cummins engine and that red color was all I could find with a 60/20/40 front seat.
I'm at 60K now and zero issues currently.

They ALL BREAK at some point. My 2004 is pretty rock solid but leaks nearly every fluid.

IMO, the 15-18 Trucks are among the best emission era diesels made- especially if equipped with the Aisin. I’ve had a 68RFE and now an Aisin, the 68 is easier to live with day to day, but the Aisin is a beast when towing. My 17 3500 with rear air ride is way better towing than my 16 2500 with rear coils and timbrens.

I plan on keeping the 17 for a long time.

It’s unfortunate the new trucks can’t maintain the same level of reliability.

I have a pretty good Lemon Law attorney. I'm in San Diego, but this guy is good. Larry Hoddick in the Palm Springs area. I'm pretty sure I can get out of it when this is all over.

Crazy how these new rams are having so many issues.. I bought a brand new 18 in 2019 due to I knew the 4th gens where very solid trucks and didnt want to risk it with the 5th gens. Glad i did.. Dont under stand why these new aisin trans are having issues. For many years they have been issue free. Didnt really hear about aisins having problems. Just the 68's. Im aslo hearing the newer trucks are having motor issues... Not good.. I love cummins and hopefully they can get the issues fixed.

Covid and the aftermath caught a lot of mfgs out, they may have changed suppliers on small stuff, and small stuff failing in a transmission causes big problems.

What hitch are you using when towing the 5th wheel? Slider hitch or standard one that mounts in the bed? Just curious for clearance issues making hard turns with the trailer.

Have any independent diesel mechanics figured out the prevantative fixes?

For the 68RFE there are well built versions avail as well as preventive mods available. For example a modified valve body, strengthening plates for the solenoid stack, better converters, better filtration, and on and on. I will be looking into this when my 125k mi 8yr extended warranty is up.

For the Aisin I haven't herd of anything and I just finished my latest issue of Diesel World mag. Why is because they have been rock solid.

I'm going to keep quiet and hope this extends to 30 days so I can Lemon Law it. I'd rather move on.
With all the supply issues, the 30 day repair timeframe is being stretched and challenged in court.
Manufactures want to extend it out to 90 days.

The 68 issues and fixes are well documented, and they can be built to handle a lot of power. If I were building a tuned truck that is the way I would go, but you’re going to spend 7-10k to build one right.

The Aisin cannot be tuned, so you’re limited to a mild engine tune in front of it if you want it to live. They make upgraded clutches for it, but without being able to tune it, there’s no reason to upgrade it. In the older trucks they typically last forever behind stock or mildly tuned engines if you follow the maintenance schedule- fluid every 30k, and fluid/filter every 60k.

My old 16 has 900lbs of torque. Idk how much more power anyone needs in a 1 ton lol

Can you turn 90 degrees with that setup?
Just slightly less then. The reality is in all the years I have been camping I haven’t felt myself needing that tight of a radius, so a little loss of turn was acceptable and much much better than a slider IMO.

I make a uturn in my cul-de-sac when I come home, and it's tight

Being a mega cab the bed is already short enough and having a standard 5th wheel let alone a slider wasn’t going to work for me so going gooseneck was the only option. My last truck was a long bed quad cab, this truck we wanted a mega cab.

my trailer being over 45’ long cul de sac U turns was never going to happen anyways. I have to back down my street.

I'm around 41-42 overall length, and make the uturn fairly easy of there's no cars parked there, which there's usually not. When there's cars parked there I can obviously make a tighter turn, but I'm getting close to 90 degrees.

Your setup is the exact setup I've been looking at, and may switch this summer. If I have to back down my street so be it.

I haven’t towed with it yet (this weekend is my first) my buddy has the same set up (same truck and same length trailer) and absolutely loves it. He’s the reason I went with it.

Call and see if Englewood transmission works on that transmission and see if the can do the warranty work I had them do that on mine paid the extra for the stage four in the Allison. Worth the call.
