I have not called
6.0 diesel with 104,500 miles
Couldn't see in windows but looks like cloth interior
Also looks like fresh paint and tires
Thoughts?

6.0: Best turbo whistle out there and also... most likely to blow up and leave you stranded!

But they'll go from Havasu to Barstow with 2 bad injectors to get under your 100 mile AAA tow limit. Ask me how I know.

I had an unmolested 2004 F350 from 2013 to 2021. Lifted on 35s and straight piped. I loved that truck... but I got a good one. It finally lost a couple of injectors at 150k miles.

But there were a ton of stories about them falling apart before 100k, with and without being tuned. Some claimed if you spent $10k to bulletproof them, they were bulletproof. Some continued to have issues.

Again, I loved mine but I also believe the many, many bad 6.0 stories.

At that price, it would need to have a stack of receipts with it. If it's "stock", I wouldn't think it's worth the money. Egr and oil coolers are notorious weak points, and not fun or cheap to do. Injectors get pricey, and even more after they melt down other parts, like pistons.

Looks clean but for that price, I would expect it to be "bulletproofed" and egr deleted.

There are some good 6.0's out there. I happen to have one still. Stock with 133k on the clock with regular maintenance and EGR replacement only. I'll open it up and bulletproof it when needed, but with as little as I drive it now it's going to be a while.

It's a $12k truck. More than likely that paint will be no good in 5 years... An oem paint job for these trucks is $10k and what's even tougher is finding a place to do the work.

Saw this at the boat show today. Id stay away from the 6.0 if its not bulletproofed. The price is what it is. When you compare to a new superduty for 100K low end doesn't seem like a bad deal if it was a 7.3 or 6.7

287,000 on a 6.0 that was bulletproofed at 213,000. Easily towed a 14,400 lbs boat the first six years of its life and repeatedly gets 19 mpg, oh ya, no DEF. It’s been a daily driver most of its life with most of the miles above 75 mph. I hear it’s a piece of shit but none of my 3 Chevys could hold a candle to it. The brand new Fords and Dodges that I drive at work are as nice as their price tags.

Google Chevy towing Ford and you will see my famous picture of old 6.0.

Had 2 2003 and 2007. The 2003 was a great truck when it ran. All the issues it had would not of been fixed with a bullet proof kit. So it was sold. 2007 had to have the engine pulled with under 20k miles. Luckily it was under warranty. Problem was it was my work truck with all my tools. And spent months at the dealer. Making it hard to work. I only had 1 work truck then.

I no longer own ford's after the 6.0. If you got a good 1 you were lucky!

You may be a ford guy, but I have my 2004 duramax on here, it has 180,000 miles but its been babied. When I was looking for my diesel I wanted something not modified much by some younger guy who is hard on the truck. Its a clean DD, was my daily driver. I got the new truck bug and bought something newer.

2004 6.0 - 68k miles, spent more time in the shop than on the road

2006 6.0 - 227k, 104k, everything went, ext. warranty (that I purchased at 98k mileage)..
227k, same shit happening... I traded her in... (17k)

2015 - Gas 6.2 (227k miles, still running strong)

IMO stay away..

My $.02 worth.....
Speaking of ride quality and 4x4 only.....
The 04 4x4 still has the leaf sprung front axle (2wd were coil sprung). 05+ 6.0's went to coil radius arm, nicer ride quality especially when lifted. IMO I'd buy 05+ just for this reason alone if buying 4x4.

The 6.0 is a 50/50 chance that it'll be a good one, and I think that is being generous. If you get a good one though they are really good, I've driven a few pulling trailers. Nice power and oh that turbski whistle LoL.

My buddy had a bad one that he bought stock and spent $12k bullet proofing (EGR cooler, injectors, head studs, ect.) and still had nothing but problems. It left us stranded a couple of times in Glamis.

Mine, other than bulletproof, is 100% stock with pretty good maintenance record only using motorcraft parts and Deleo oil. One injector went out at 176,000 and I replaced all 8 with brand new stock injectors.

03 is the only year that had the “whistle” due to a 9 or 10 blade wheel in the turbo. They don’t whistle well when they suck a lifter through the hpop ask me how I know. The 05 I had that was 12k of Bulletproofed proceeded to break down every week after leaving the shop. When it got down to needing a new injector harness I said eff this noise. But hey 50/50 is great odds 🙄.

Only vehicle we ever "Lemon Lawed" was a 03 Excursrion with the 6.0. Biggest POS ever.

There are a handful of them up here, 4x4, stone stock, ranch trucks. They are good about service, but really hard on suspension and tires. The two that immediately come to mind are knocking on 300k, no issues at all! Here's the only thing I can think of, I don't think either of those two have seen 70mph. They tow fairly heavy, stock, feed and tractors, but rarely if ever go into the big city.

I really think tuners and driving them like Hondas is the biggest issue.

Serviced religiously by Me. With free Ford parts and Delo oil. Friend was a fleet mechanic. And they had all 6.0s at 1 time. 30 F250-F550s. Most issues he would just drop them off at the dealership. No tuners on either of mine or his fleet he serviced and maintained. 1 in 5 never had a problem others they were dumping before warranty expired.

From Y pipes cracking, transmission failures, oil leaks, injectors, even a good friend had his rear axle fail that was $5500. Nothing but problems for majority of them.

They do go through batteries. I would change regardless every 3 years. Or FICM will take a shit. My AC Delco batteries average 6 years few have gone 8 in Chevys.

As for the 6.0 deal it is all about knowing what you are getting if you know the fail points of a 6.0 and factor the replacement costs into your purchase price you can do good with buying one. As for the OP that is way too high for that year unless it has an amazing build sheet. My son has an 07 6.0 he tore into and rebuilt before things became an issue, because he could do it himself and he has a solid 80k trouble free on on it so far since he bought it. It is fun to drive and does burnouts through second gear. But my old slow ram kicks it’s ass up the grade with an extra 4k in tow 🤷🏼 It is our personal situation not everybody’s situation so ultimately if you feel the truck is worth it and you know what you are getting into go for it👍🏻 Remember asking if something is ”worth it” is the same as asking which color is best.

My 2002 V10 4x4 Lariat. Runs like a top! Gets shitty gas mileage but I only paid $8,800 for it 4 years ago. Couple hundred in gas a month beats expensive payments, insurance, and fuel. Of course if I could afford a new truck I’d have a nice shiny one!

I managed a large commercial strawberry farm in FL before I retired.
Back in ‘03 we bought three new F550 4wd flatbed trucks to help move stuff around the fields. We unloaded them after 3 years. During those 3 years (except for the first 4 months) we never had all 3 of them at the farm at the same time. All were in and out of the dealer the entire time.

I had a bad experience with my 6.0

My 7.3 was great but did require a lot of maintenance.

My 5.4 F150 was alright. Few issues but not bad.

My last two 5.0 F150s have been flawless. Other than the funky 10 speed quirks.

Overall I spent the most $ maintaining the diesels. They towed great but I find for what I'm towing now my F150 works just fine.

I looked at a couple Harley Davidson edition 6.0’s before I bought my duramax. Love the 05-07 body style but ultimately I didn’t want to deal with all the potential issues. My LLY has been pretty good to me other than needing a transmission.

You can get a 04.5-07 LLY or lbz duramax in that 20-30k price range.

My neighbor purchased A truck during COVID. And I’m soooo jealous. The last year 7.3, crew cab duelly , 4x4. White over tan with only 30k on it. It’s like a new truck. Picked it up for 18k. He totally stole it. !!! Man I wish I could find a deal like that.
