No thanks to trading for a Jeep. My plan is to sell this boat and my Samurai in order to get a deck boat.
Here's a shot of the new deck and alum tank from one side. I also replaced the bulkhead under the deck. It has the access point and cut outs for 10" subwoofers that I have not put in.
I have decided to sell my 73 Spectra 20 jet. It has a 468 Chevy and Berkeley jet. Both are rebuilt and in fact still breaking in. The motor has a Holley 850 carb, Edelbrock Torker manifold, Mallory ignition and runs very strong. The boat was painted when I bought it and the upholstery was 'new'...
Thanks for the pix. Looks nice. I am wondering if the boat is still for sale as a previous post from last month looked like someone else was interested.
I am interested if the boat may be sold as mentioned without the motor. I cant afford the motor. I have a decent motor in my Spectra 20...
I was unable to get the pix to copy into here but it sounds like Perko fender locks. A search at westmarine.com will show the pix. I have them on my boat to secure the bimini top straps.
Well I have this project to a point that I can put this thing in the water tomorrow. Now all I need is insurance. My company (Geico) doesn't insure older jet boats (Spectra 20) and searching on-line for marine insurance, it seems no one else does either. Any references out there? Especially a...
I might like to come out and meet some folks and see some Spectras on Sunday (I work Saturday nights). Would anyone be left there or does everyone head back early Sundays? I live out here and don't need the lodging.
What I referred to as hunting was the boat would want to go a little off course, both left and right, at near full throttle or about 50+, feeling a bit squirly. The water was smooth and there was nothing really in the boat as far as gear. It was only at or near top speed.
I have the floor...
OK, I'm convinced to replace the fin - now if I could find a direct replacement! The fin I have is bolt thru, 9" long and 4" deep. The fin at Rex Marine is longer and deeper (6.5" deep I think).
Do they even make bolt thru fins any more. The few that I have found say they are "drop thru"...
I bought 3M Bondo fiberglass resin at Home Depot. My neighbor is helping me out and suggested that was fine. I bought that before I posted for any input on this site.
I actually don't have a ride plate or any trim control. The bowl is also the older style one piece, not a split. That particular ride was on smooth water, only two of us in the boat and not a bunch of junk (ice chest, anchor, etc). There was no gas in the left tank and about 15 or so in the...
They don't say anything about baffles. This manufacturer seems to be the largest as they are everywhere I search. They make both above deck (pontoons) and below deck applications. http://store.easternmarineoutlet.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.prodInfo&productID=8703&categoryID=483
Anyone have opinions, pros or cons on polypropylene tanks? I would have to check the height after putting in the floor but these tanks might work. And a lot cheaper than aluminum.
My neighbor races outboards and uses poly tanks - at over 100 mph.
I bought a 73 Spectra 20 with a BBC jet. I've only had it out once and found that the front end wanted to 'hunt' at or near full throttle. The steering fin is a bit twisted. I am re-doing the floor and gas tanks so I took the fin off yesterday too since I had access.
Is that something that I...
Thanks for the input. I bought 3/4 AC ply for the job, along with resin. I cleaned out the area where the old tanks were mounted yesterday. I also cut out the bulkheads between the stringers that were just in front of the engine and up near the dash. Both appear to have been replaced prior or...
I got my old fiberglass tanks out and took the old floor out as well. It did not appear all that old but was put down with drywall screws, was not resined, and had mold on it.
So my question/s now...
How thick of plywood should I use for the floor. This is a Spectra 20 with 4 stringers...
