How does a DIY’er vacuum down the system prior to charging the system? I’ve installed a lot of these but always get a buddy to swing by and vacuum down, charge and do startup.

I use the 1 CU Ft system from DI rinse. Get a good year to year and a half out of the resin. Resin has gone up a bit it's now $235 for a cubic foot. Well worth it in my opinion. Saves a lot of time!
