its unlikely you can "see" the injector pulse. we are talking fractions of a second at idle speed or less. even a noid light ( small device to test injector outputs) barley blink at start. not saying you dont have an issue with the injectors firing, but doubt its not the ecu doing its thing.
since it ran fine on they dyno, i doubt its a bad sensor. more likely you dont have power hooked up correctly.
some older ECU's had a constant power feed and an ignition key on feed. if yours has that make sure they are not reversed.
almost all ECU's trigger the injector on the negative...
in the last 20 years there has been about 40 deaths in the USA from earthquakes.
been about 2000 death from hurricanes.
my guess would be though that if we had a REALLY big one, 8.5+ in LA, SF or SD, the death toll would be in the tens of thousands in a 60 second period.
dave we ran the piss out of cheap generac generators suppling power to cell towers here in vegas.....24x7 for months on end........it wasnt the heat that did them in here in the summer.
put in boating terms, it would be like have a turbo 1350 running at idle all day, then adding drag chutes in the water so as to load the engine more but not go any faster,
well then seems like a small genset to support the realistic load of the truck, wired to a x-fer switch, then run the big daddy when needed. very uneconomical the way its setup. like using a jackhammer to crack an egg.
Gen-Tech here in Vegas has various size load banks for testing. Not that you want to drive all this way, but if it comes to it here is an option for you.
also, why such a big generator?
it will tow ok at reasonable speeds, fairly straight roads and NO WIND without weight distribution.
take any of those items out of the equation and you will regret no have a WDH.
for the moment, you would replace the ECU. I already do this with Motec ECU's. you would then have open tuning, drive by wire, you can even do electronic shift. this also allows logging, wide band exhaust sensors....on and on. PM me for more details.
i dont know of any update kits from merc.
but it is possible to do so. upgrading to DBW is an EASY and very effective. this would require a different ECU and harness, and then the tuning options are endless.
