If I could do it again I would have saved the speech lol. Short and simple is the way to go apparently according to my wife I was always so nice so she thought I was just being nice as usual. I literally was getting down on one knee as she was turning to continue walking and I said really bitch then she realized we laugh about to this day that I called her a bitch jokingly during our proposal.

I did it at my favorite place (the river). Made sure the parents were there and my life long best buddy.

Nobody knew aside from buddy and my step dad. she future wife needed some advil so I went to the boat put the ring in the bottle. walked up the beach she put out her hand and i dropped to a knee and poured the ring into her hand. Nothing huge but it was great. she was shocked .

A year or so after our child was born, this was 38 or so years ago, I said something to the affect “ we have a child together we might as well get married.”

So I traveled to see her, had a nice hotel room, extra nice flowers delivered to the room before she checked in before I. And once she was dressed and ready for the night with friends broke out a nice champagne bottle and chocolate strawberries I smuggled in and proposed there. At this point in time, she’s pregnant, we’re not married. I had spent a couple years battling cancer, living together. We had talked about getting married and it was all just about life business.

Cabo, on lovers beach, pregnant. On the walkway, by Belmont Plaza...we met through competitive swimming, figured it made sense. Random night, out on a drive after being in Huntington earlier. I reached in my pocket, and showed her the best ring I couldn't really afford, and asked if she'd marry me. That was 28 years ago. Been married for 25 this June, together for 31. I had it all planned out. I had my best friend and his girl with me, It was planned for the Saturday for her birthday so i told her i was taking her to a nice dinner ( Charlies River Crab on the St. Clair river here in Michigan. we picked her up in a limo and she was super surprised to see it along with our friends. Any ways, we partied in the limo on the ride to the restaurant and got seated at our table. Half way through dinner I just stood up right next to the table and in a rather loud voice said " Excuse me everyone", the entire restaurant stopped and looked at me as I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said Yes and for the rest of the night women came over to our table and asked her to see her ring and congratulate her. Also there was unknown number of drinks sent to our table by the people in the restaurant through out the rest of the evening. 30 years later this pass October 15th, we are still going strong.

He's a man of few words , so there wasn't a big speech or anything, just the best question a girl could hear from the man she loves. Word traveled quickly around the boat and we spent the rest of the evening celebrating with complete strangers. One of the couples we were seated with disappeared for a bit and when they returned, they had purchased the photo that the boat company makes you take before boarding. A very sweet gesture, but even cooler because if you look closely, you can see the lump from the ring box in his cargo shorts pocket.
Married for 19 years in May, 22 years together.
