I had a friend who actually thought the planes were spraying something out of the back of them. I explained to him that they were...they spray hot air from the engine that mixes with the cold air and in the right conditions causes visible condensation.

He replied, "Oh, so they aren't spraying cloud making chemicals?"

I have a theory on what causes contrails.

It's an additive to jet A fuel.

Before it was jet A, it was just diesel fuel.

Diesel fuel doesn't spontaneously combust like Jet A does.

(I've never watched NHRA at Maple Grove either)

BINGO - The Chemtrails actually last for weeks. Even when they haven't sprayed for an extended period of time there is still a haze in the sky. Condensation Trails vanish in minutes!

Maybe they should have started seeding the clouds before the winds took hold so at least if there was a fire everything would be moist and less subject to burning. Plus most pyromaniacs don’t go out in the rain.

Problem with your flawed logic is, you need storm clouds laden with moisture so the "Seeding" is drawn up by the updraft, the cycle repeated several times, until the particles provide the nucleus that accumulates sufficient moisture to overcome the updraft and fall as rain.
So for "Seeding" to be effective it needs the appropriate conditions. In that regard, "Seeding" is performed at a low altitude, often using specially modified Crop Dusters, in order that the material is drawn upward.
In other words, it's administered from the bottom up, not the top down.

Yup, it was heavily used during the Vietnam War to flood parts of the Ho Chi Minh Trail and other VC supply routes.

We flew home from Texas on Tuesday, while at 40k feet I could see chem/contrail out my window at a much higher elevation than we were at, I haven't seen an airliner above 41k feet on flight radar, the only aircraft I have seen above that was the U2 at around 65k.

I was taught 2* per 1,000'. But the Google machine says it's around 17.78* F.
