Wife’s battery took a crap in her 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. Of course the car is as spotless as a museum 🤣

AAA wanted $360. Battery from Costco was $200. To be fair I wouldn’t charge a nickel less if this wasn’t our vehicle.

Thank you to whoever put the battery under the front seat. 😁 🖕🏻 🤦🏼‍♂️

Stupid. Had to change too many batteries on the dodge journeys. It's under the wheel well. Have to take the tire off, pop all the stupid clips, pull the fender well out of the way and it's till a bitch to get to too. My mom had one and it had charging issues, changed it at least 5 times.

lol....you're the one who bought an Italian version of a Chrysler product....give credit where credit is due for levels of stupidity.

Edit:....what's all that electrical tape for?....if a new car I bought had a battery cable wrapped in electrical tape I'd return it

Neighbor has a Ford Focus and they needed a battery.
I said no problem I'll do it.
Sunavabitch. Buried by the driver's firewall under the windshield wiper.
Need to remove air intake system and front of battery tray.
You can't even get to the negative post where the battery cable management system is.
Negative cable corroded and needs a $75 cable.

Yep, wife had a Chrysler 300 that was like that. First time I ever bought a battery from Pep Boys and let them do a free install back in the day.

This is pretty minor....my favorites are the cars where on the assembly line they start with a fixture that holds the headlamps and the heater core in space, and then assemble the whole rest of the damn car around them....and put all the 10" long bolts in from the only direction that makes it so you can't get them out once the next piece is installed....and then put 1000 parts on top of that.

My grandmother-in-law was freaking out they wanted like $200(she on a fixed income) to change a headlight in her Cadillac. And of course I volunteered to do it. Grabbed my tool box, started looking at, scratched my head a few times, watched a YouTube video. And handed her $200 to go get it changed..lol

Yea, so my wife had to have this MB she’s had her eye on, the AMG SL55. We found a two year old one with super low miles and made a good deal on it.
Well when we get it home and I start doing research on the car so I can DYI the maintenance, I find out there’s a standard 12v battery in the trunk and a 48v battery under the hood. WTF? Yeeeeah the 48v battery is $2000 and they recommend replacing both batteries at the same time. My ass is bleeding already.

Hahahaha My Ex-Wife calls me (we’re friends) and tells me her SUV won’t start. It’s a newer Ford hybrid something rather, junk.

I say no problem. I’ll head over to your house, pull the battery and grab a new one.

Now let me preface this by saying I’m pretty damn good with engines anything mechanical. I don’t need instructions or YouTube University 99% of the time.

This stupid battery broke my spirit. I couldn’t find the fucking thing. I’m even on a creeper rolling around underneath this godforsaken vehicle.

Had to open the manual and go online. Starting battery is located under the fucking spare tire in the back of the SUV and it’s only the size of a small watercraft battery.

I told her if she ever needs a new battery again to call a tow truck 😂

If the AAA guy hadn’t told my wife where it was I might still be looking lol.

Wife's Flex is like that...the interwebs said it's like a 3 hour job. I didn't believe it until I started messing with it last Sunday. You basically have to tear the whole front end off of the fucking thing.

Yes same with the Cadillac. Basically pull the entire front clip off. Could I have done it, yes, is that how I wanted to spend a day out of the three I was there, nope! Heck I had even already ran to the parts store and bought the replacement bulbs. Should have looked at it first..lol

If you can't afford a new German car, you certainly can't afford a used one.....that's sorta the rule lol

What about the German cars that require you to reprogram the computer to the battery? Only way to change one is use a mechanic that has the proper computer tools and license to perform the work.
Nah...any decent scanner with bi-direction controls can register the battery

I was gonna say...

If you haven't worked for BMW...

You have no idea the depths of hate you can have for an engineer.

Tesla X is like 30 fasteners. To change the starter battery. When it died had to YouTube how to open the front trunk to access it with it being dead. Then YouTube the swap. No where sells the damn battery but Tesla. And it has a 1 year warranty from them like all there parts. The one I replaced wasn't even 2 years old. They wanted $700 to come out and change it. The original did last 6 years.

Looks like an reasonably easy swap.

Wife's is in the trunk (guessing weight balance), It wasn't impossible but it could have been easier. Bought the most expensive one I could buy with the longest replacement warranty. Hoping I won't have to touch it.

Spotless as a museum 🤣🤣.

....until you've had to change an alternator on a 3.4L twincam FWD olds from the early '90s

Childs play. Look at the dual turbos on a 335i someday...

And let's not even talk about reprogramming the Whole car, cause the CD player (or any other can buss component) went bad.

Sorry Mr Customer, it will be a few more days until we can get your car back to you.

FOR A FUCKING CD PLAYER???

Good times! 🤣

Not sure if fuel cells are similar to Hydrogen powered ICE, but GM did the same type of deal with BMW in the 90's. It was a dead end road other than GM providing transmissions to BMW for their 7 series cars. Hydrogen powered vehicles sounds great, but will never happen.

I have a 2020 Durango RT, lots of AWD stuff from the Cherokee and sonna of a bitch..the battery is located under the front passengers seat too😒 I had no idea, but just confirmed it's location. What a poor location for it to reside, plenty of room in the engine compartment or adjacent to the spare tire floor pan well like a challenger / 300, that would have been much more accessible. I don't drive my Durango much, has about 20K on since new, always garaged, but it has been starting slow after a couple weeks of sitting. Great timing on the post! Now I know what I am in for to replace it.

You mean filet my wrist and forearm? Oh ya lol.

I went to change the front turn signal on my F150. Looked at what’s behind the headlight and shut the hood lol. I’ll deal with that tomorrow.

A hot tip. Raise the seat all the way before you disconnect the battery 🤦🏼‍♂️. And find something to cover the small battery’s leads. Sparks like a sumbitch when it hits the bare metal of the car 🤣.

for all the bitching....thats not a horrible spot to put the battery. in the cab it isnt subjected to the heat and/or extreme cold compared to under the hood. the battery will last longer and perform better.

it cant be that big of a deal to take the seat out.

Not that this is any worse than some of the horror stories but I've replaced my headlight bulbs and my fog lights in my Yukon.

For the headlights, the passenger side is easy, no obstructions. You'd almost lull yourself into the idea that this couldnt be easier. Then the drivers side you gotta remove the whole air filter assembly to access those headlights. That entails disconnecting the MAF sensor (which means disconnecting the battery which I didn't know the first time) and the intake tube to the TB. I broke the air cleaner cover trying to remove that, nearly broke the air cleaner box because it didn't come out easy.

To top that all off, I originally replaced my HIDs with new HIDs only for them to last a few months and I had to take the car apart again to replace them again. The next pair lasted half a year. So I switched to LEDs and its been two years without having to do that again.

As far as the fog lights go, I had to take the entire front clip off, which means taking clips off the top, taking screws out of the wheel wells, taking bolts out from the front buried down by the radiator with a foot long extension and then going under the front clip and removing about 6 bolts. Then taking the front clip off and laying it on a blanket to replace the lights. Then putting the whole thing back together and hoping everything still worked.

Had to buy ramps for the fog light job. That made it far easier. That and a YT video on how you take the front clip off, which I had to watch at least a half dozen times.

I had Four Wheel Parts install the Odyssey battery I bought from them. Its buried in the back by the firewall.

Its not that I don't want to work on the car, but growing up wrenching on a boat before I ever owned a car spoiled me to the access I had to do simple replacements in the boat.

You probably can confirm this but...

The Bimmer forums back in the late aughts were full of stories of owners taking their E39s in for service and ending up with the cars bricked because the first order of business was to reflash the software to the latest build from BMW. But the updates has to be done in sequence and if you had an old software build and the tech didn't catch it... It got very expensive.

To be honest that Toyota Pic has been floating around awhile, and they survive well over 100K in that location.
I'm at 170,000 miles on my 2000 Tundra - so 25 years and starter still good..... I am almost due for my next Timing belt. Which means, tensioner, water pump and other stuff. PIA, but I go slow and get'er done in a day, or two if going really slow.

Best place to keep a battery is under a seat powered by that battery. 😂 At least I was able to use the jumper terminals under the hood to get my seat out of the way. Worst job so far was replacing the blend door actuator gears for the driver and passenger side. Passenger side took 15 minutes. Drivers side took 2 hours.
