WPM Cats - Yeah or Nay?

One of the better performing cats from back in the day were warrior performance marine by Tom Stolarz. I always thought they were kinda funky looking, but always heard rave reviews about how they ran. It's pretty rare you see them, but when you do they always have some decent power in them and they are pretty trick.. personally I have never been in one.. whatever happened to WPM? Anybody run one?

Side note Tom is a pretty talented guy and did WPM steering if anyone remembers that. He was friends with a buddy of mine Danny Donahue and also did a pretty unique steering bracket in the DCM V Drive that I never could quite wrap my head around.. lol

Anyhow saw this at Mavericks over he weekend and it got me to thinking about them.

Looks good to me, although the step down on the gunnel makes it look like an older boat . IMHO .

It is a good looking boat if that's the word you're looking for.:thumbsup In the smaller cats category, the RPM 26 is my all time favorite. The old Excalibur was, before. I like high freeboard cats.

I honestly thought they were the ugliest cat out there. The controls being on the top rim of the boat was weird too. I've seen a couple up close and was never very impressed. I did see one with a few people and big power trying to get on plane and it took forever and was burning the prop really bad. I think a couple passengers shifted their weight as forward as possible and it finally planed. Did okay after that though.

I honestly thought they were the ugliest cat out there. The controls being on the top rim of the boat was weird too. I've seen a couple up close and was never very impressed. I did see one with a few people and big power trying to get on plane and it took forever and was burning the prop really bad. I think a couple passengers shifted their weight as forward as possible and it finally planed. Did okay after that though.

I think aftershock ended up with the 23 WPM Molds. We used that bottom to tool the 24 Orion Cat years ago, it worked ok. I know tom made a 28 WPM which ran hard. The decks suck.

Stolarz is extremely talented and has been in the business a long time, the Warlock 25' is one of the best boats made, IMHO. If I remember correctly, Stolarz sold Warlock to Carter Reed and then started WPM and produced a couple different sizes of those boats with the signature saddle in the side. I'm not a huge fan of the looks but they're not bad either, and outstanding performing boats :thumbsup

I think when Stolarz started WPM he just tried to improve on what he had already done. I'm sure they're similar but I'm also sure he tweaked it a bit.

I ran with a 23 years ago up the river to the sand bar. That thing hauled ass! My friend has a 28 WPM and still has it. I almost bought it but I couldn't get over the deck. Just didn't work for me. After my friend bought it I was lucky enough to be able to run it at Lake Mead in some big water. That made me a believer! Probably one of the best handling cats I've ever been in, especially in the big water. You could run it as hard as you wanted and it would just eat it up. If the 28 had a different deck I would have one sitting in my garage right now.

Bob Endress from B&M blowers used to have a 23 WPM. Used to hang out with him a lot back in the 90's when I had my 22 Daytona. He had big power in it like 650hp if I recall correctly, yes that was big power back in those days not so much now.

I remember Bobby but couldn't think of his name....I think that was one of the first WPMs, Stolarz did a lot of testing with it.

I spent a lot of time with Bob and running around the river with that boat. He used to think he was so cool pulling into the channel and setting up his fishing pole. Until one day a cat fish hit it and pulled his whole rig right out of the boat and into the channel. I laugh my ass off. I had some good times with Endress at the river, miss that guy.

That boat for a 23' ran really good. A buddy of ours Rob Arias bought it from Bob and had it for a few years. I like it back in the day it was just a shame two homes owned it.

Some friends Jon and Michelle had a 28 Warlock that was originally called "Mickey's Big Mouth" they renamed it too "Gruesome Twosome" had twin 598's / blowers... Boat fucking ripped. I loved that boat.

At one point after Jon and Michelle sold it, it was floating around Havasu and was at some car lot here in Havasu for like 35K!!! Fuck me if I could rewind my life..
