Dont know much history on the Caliber 1 stuff. Who would have made the 2005 210 model? Decent build quality?

I've heard good things about them... I would consider one.

Idk about the 05's? Was Cliff still building them at that time, in Corona?

In the early to mid 90s when Caliber was off Tustin Ave and the 91 fwy, their boats were awesome, reminded me alot of Ultra in those days. Beautiful boats.

All the digging I can come up with was he was there building under the new owner along with his lamination guys and rigger. It seems to be right around the transition when he was leaving all together. Don't know for sure, just what I have been reading.

What I recall about Caliber 1, is that they started in the early 80's, and fell victim to the economy a few years back.

At a time when manufactures were making the transition to larger boats, C1 still focused on building boats in the 20' - 25' range, IMHO there is a lot to be said about.

I really liked the lines of their 280 Thunder

Always heard good things about them in the 80s and 90s. Had a couple of freinds with older ones they liked. The 230 had some pretty good reviews. seems like the 210 was the same as the Ultra, but I may be wrong. Seems like I went by Corona about 2007 a young guy said he was the new owner, and showed me a plug for a new deck boat which was also advertised in the Boat trader a lot, don't think one was actually ever built.

Cliff Loetz - A good guy who built some very good boats. Although, not sure if he was still involved in 2005.

This sounds about right. Cliff did my upholstery on 2 of my boats before he started Caliber 1. He was in the same complex as Greg Shoemaker from GS Marine in Anaheim. In 98' when I built my Eliminator I also looked at Caliber. Cliff was in a little tax trouble and was wearing a ankle bracelet. :yikes I know he hung for a few years after that. I seen him last year at the John Force holiday car show. He was helping out with parking.

It depends on which 21 you're talking about. They built one for a re-seller (who's name escapes me) that is not badged but looks like this. I believe it is from an old Ultra Mold.

They didn't build those for sale to the public.

They also built a 210 velocity that looks like this.

The one pictured is a 230 though. Those are well built boats. The others were low priced models usually (about 26K new) with Volvo Penta 5.7 power. I don't know a lot about those other than the owner told me they did build them and they are good boats. I have a 2003 Velocity and it is a very solid boat. 2005 is about the time that Cliff sold out to Al Hussein.

Its the 210 Magnum which looks like the 23 velocity you have pictured.

My neighbor has a 23 Velocity built in 2003. Nice boat, has held together nicely. Fast, takes the rough water nice. The freeboard is a little low for my liking. He bought the boat from Cliff. I think the deal was not the quality of the boat; but rather, the games between purchase time and taking delivery of it! The 23 is really a 21, so see if that's the case with the other boat.

True. The running surface on the 230 is 21.5. The running surface on the 210 Magnum is 20.5. I got my 2003 new but it didn't come from Cliff. He allegedly laid it up as a showroom boat then sold it to Mark Tyler at Performance Offshore Marine because he needed the money to make payroll. I always wondered what the real story might be on that hull. Mark rigged it the way I wanted and gave me a great deal on it. It is a heavy boat so not as fast as it could be but very solid.

My neighbor's boat looks similar, white but with blue flames cascading down the hull vertically. I think the weight is why it handles the rough nicely, kind of like my Hallett 210, we would always run neck and neck beside each other - he has the 496 Mag, I had the 454 Mag. Everybody i know has always been happy with build quality of caliber 1.

And like Pokey, I remember Caliber 1 at Kraemer/la Palma...before that, it was Advantage? For many years I had an office at Tustin/La Palma.

The Hallett, Caliber 1 and next to it a 21 Lavey Xtski...all ran the same at about 65 on gps.

That would be about right. I'll hit 70 on the speedo with an empty boat, low fuel and a tail wind. So I figure the real speed is about 65.

Hallett 454 mag (365 hp) w/Lightning Headers and tuned 3 blade 24" prop
Caliber 1 - 496 mag (375 hp) with 4 blade Quicksilver tuned prop
Lavey 454 (330 hp) stock Bravo 1(?) prop.

Yup, the Lavey is a quick little fawkerv:thumbup: Best I've ever seen on the Hallett is 69 on no fuel, flat water. That's slow because according to everybody at the Hallett regatta, their 210's all do 80 :p:rolleyes
