I was out the lake yesterday when I came across a salvage crew trying to raise a boat out of 40' of water.

I talked to the owner back at the dock and from what I understand they were out the day before and had stuffed the nose and couldn't recover from it. The boat started to sink, then it flipped and within less than 2 minutes it went down.

Then the boat owner turns to me and says "it's not like we were overloaded, we only had 10 people on board":hmm:eek::rolleyes:

From what he said only about half where able to grab life vests but luckily they were only about 100' from shore.

Besides the obvious. The Bimini and roll cage are in great shape. and with that recovery vessel, I would of thought they would of scratched the boat up with the toons. But actually looks like they knew what the hell they were doing.

We had a boat go down right here in the marina a few years back and while it was close to the shore at the time, it truly was something to see the "Rats" all scrambling for shore.:skull

I'll never forget the boat driver doing his best to stay with it trying to save the boat when the gas started to leak into the water.....apparently when he got it on his balls his beeline for shore and screaming was something to see.....made me realize that I'll NEVER be anywhere around gas in the water if a boat starts to go down:D

pull the plug on the motor and drain it and then top off with diesel fuel and spin it over. not that bad as long as it didnt stay under to long, sucks and how do you stuff the nose in calm water 9 out of 10 on the front.

Probably had the ballast full on top of the people's weight.....They'd a had 12 on board but 1 couple was back at the marina washing their kid at the laudramat. Same type of brainpower anyway.:skull

Thats crazy. Did they cite him for contamination of the American river?:D

You know if someone got hurt they would probably sue the boat manufacturer......

Yup, sounds like a manufacturer's defect.

In all seriousness that had to be a scary scene. Hope everyone was ok.

My comment was sarcasm unfortunately.:thumbsdown

Mastercraft already fought and lost this battle. :grumble: 14 or 17 idiots on the front of a roll bar boat and the manufacturer has a defect.

One thing I thought was funny was I asked the boat owner how much the salvage cost and he replied that he didn't know and the salvage company would bill him the next day.:rotflmao:

I would have thought there we be a pile of flotation foam in that kind of a boat?

Was in a Calabria on the river with only 4 of us and we took in huge roller ….. I’d guess 50+ gallons. Don’t know this boat but the bow on ours was maybe 18" off the surface.

I couldn’t imagine it with 10 on board you would have to have your game on not to get swamped. .

Ya, just not funny haha.

I realize wakeboard boats aren't everyone's favorite in here, but I just hate to see anyone have to learn the hard way. Hope this thread wakes up people to the dangers of overloading a boat that already has a low bow.

When ukxpat's boat sank, I believe the bill to raise it was $5k or $6k. His insurance covered this part of the dealio without question...the rest of the boat, and his insurance woes, are another issue entirely.

I would have bailed the water out first. :D

lol!

Maybe that's karma for all those damn roll bar boats creating huge wakes for jet boats and flat bottoms (sinking them) and also fucking up people's docks. :hmm:bunny:

Probably everybody that was in the boat. :hmm

You know if they were thinking and they all jumped out right away the boat may have popped back up before it completely sank.

I thought all modern boats are supposed to have enough foam in them to float?

no one said or mention if his water ballast were filled???

we ride with 10 all the time..... lucky for us...where we ride the water depth is only 4' deep...we just bounce of the bottom and start bailling the water out.....

also..power turns are not user friendly in these boats....

I hope no one was injured...

I can't tell what boat that is but to me it looks like an entry level ski boat with a rollbar. I doubt that it has an internal ballast system, but not sure.

And likely had lead on board for ballast which is a boat sinker. And I'm just speculating........

Water ballast becomes neutral when a boat is swamped. AND doesnt blow out the lake when youre not boarding.....

It is a direct drive boat and not a v-drive so probably doesn't have built in ballast and I don't think there would be room for 10 if they had fat sacks in the boat. The boat emblem on the side looks like an older Centurion...but in the last pic, on the window, is a sticker that looks like it says Hallet (maybe Hullett but I don't know what that would mean).

If it is a Tige, it looks like one of the older hulls that had the "Falcon" nose that the slope down towards the water in the front...leaving the tip of the bow very close to the water. Especially when you have people upfront.

Like this one.

my gf's moms mastercraft (which is like the schiada of rollbar boats) does that same thing in the front. when you come off plane and the front end settles theres MAYBE 6" from stuffing the nose thru a wave. most of the time when someone falls wakeboarding or skiiing and you make a loop and come across your own wake if you're not giving it some gas you'll plow right thru a wave and take water on from the front.

i never understood their hull design. probably has to do with being able to see when you drive around with the nose in the air.

even our buddies have a tige and its MUCH worse with minimal load. no ballast tanks either. center engine direct drive. it looks like its sinking most of the time.

Amen!

Oh crap this is funny!:lmao Go to this forum and read some of the posts about RDP.:D

"Ya.. they call us "Rollbar Boats", and there is no love. They are river boaters, daycruising, beer drinking, no skiing mofos. They HATE wakeboarders and surfers, because we make fat wakes"

I see a road trip in our future...
