Here is the rendering of a new Howard 28 SCS that Brad from Canada is having built. This will be his third Howard as he previously owned two Sportdecks.

The specs on the boat are:

Power: GT Marine 572 cu/in 5 Litre Whipple Supercharged c/w Moac Intercooler, 1200 HP @ 9-1/2 Lbs Boost On 91 Octane Gas.
Drive: Max Machine Works, Model MXS-1, Full Billet 6061-T6
Graphics: Rare Koncepts, Colors To Be the Same As Last Deck Boat, But The Entire Hull Inside & Out Will Be Silver.
Upholstery: Premium Marine Interiors
Gauges: Livorsi Monster Style
Cuddy: Ice Cooler Port Side, Small Lounging Bed Center, Life Jacket Storage Star Board Side.

Consider this to be the build thread.

Brad is a cool guy, he lives on my lake. I rode with him a couple of times in the sportdeck with the blown BBC. 105 with no windshield is pretty neat. Cant wait to see the new build.

Hey Rod

Hope all is well, did you attend the DCB regatta? I got just back from the Howard regatta on Sept 14, about 40 boats and 120 people showed for the event, weather was 97F to 105F had a great time. I am going to LA in Nov to view the boat, work on the interior and my new motor, we will keep the forum with up to date pictures.

Just a update to the GT Marine 572 cu/in motor, I have upgraded the Whipple to the new 8.3 liter and have chosen to go with a "individual coil over plug ignition system" no more distributor, cap or rotor.

I'm jealous Brad....Looking good!

Hey Tom

Thanks for the comments, the hull should be totally together by Nov 1 to 12. The motor should be ready about the same time.

Hey Tom

No I am just as excited as my last (2) builds can't wait until I am down in Valencia to view our boat in Nov, I talked to Gary @ GT Marine and the motor is going together as we speak, should have a dyno number before Nov.

Boat is getting capped. Every time I see this process it makes me cringe but the end result makes it worth it. I am also always amazed at the way the gelcoaters can re-match the colors when they get shot again.

This boat is frigging awesome. Capping is a true art form. Everybody thinks its expensive, but in reality the customer is making out, there is a TON of work involved and the result is priceless, specially on a boat like this. Keep the pics coming.:thumbsup:thumbsup

What is the "caping" process?

When a deck and bottom of the hull are joined they are 'mated' together typically in a manner referred to as the shoebox. It is called the shoebox because it basically looks like the lid of a shoebox with the deck being the lid and the bottom being the box itself.

Obviously in this manner there is a seam between the two, as you would see on a shoebox. This seam is what is behind the rubrail of all boats.

When a boat is called the seam of the deck and bottom are ground down to form a seamless bond. This is accomplished by adding additional glass to strengthen the seam. This boat is having the bow and stern, and a little bit wrapped around the sides, capped. What this means is that there will not be a rub rail on the bow and stern.

Below is an example of a capped bow. This was doen on the first Howard 28 SCS

It should be noted that not all boats are put together with a shoebox fit, some are what they call a butt fit, where the deck and hull just but together and bonded from inside.
It should also be noted there's alot more labor in capping a shoebox fit.

Excellent point, I couldn't remember the name of the other way and therefore did not mention it.

The work to cap a boat is CRAZY! Also, watching it being done brings just one thought to mind, ARE YOU NUTS!?!?!?!? But the look after it is all back together is well worth it.

Capping is one of those suttle things that most poeple wouldn't notice, but makes all the difference to those who pay enough attention. I have always admired the final product.

Some updated pictures of the motor.

The back picture shows how clean the system will be without the distributor cap, plug wires & MSD ignition box, the individual coils with eventually hang just below the headers with 5? long plug wires.

Beautiful boat....

Maybe I missed it...How big are the motors and what kind of power are they hoping for with the Whipples.

Motor. I'm not sure how much power it will have. Brad will have to answer that one.

Gotcha....

It looks sizable and has a big whippple... 900-1100hp wouldn't be tough...lol:D:bowdown:

You had said the boat could handle twins....will it just handle small blocks or will twin bbc or Illmors fit?

They're building another one with twin ilmors I believe. At least that was the plan initially. Have not heard anything else about it though.

Just (1) - 572 cu/in with a 8 litre whipple and should dyno around 1200 HP @ 9-1/2 lbs boost on 91 gas.
