I was up in Lake Tahoe this weekend and I noticed a boat docked a canal over under a cover that looked a lot like a big Spectra 20.

I finally heard it fire up on Saturday as I packed up to leave, and I got a far off glimpse of it motoring out and my suspicions were correct; it was no doubt a 24XS, V-drive with the name "GOOSEBUMPS" across the transom. It looked very clean, but I wasn't able to go over and get a closer look. Any chance the owner is a board member? If so , Great Looking Boat! Post up some pics!!!!

It was red; that is probably the the one. They're one street over from where we are. I could see the boat sitting at the dock from the balcony. I kept waiting for it to be uncovered, because I thought it might've been a Campbell.

We just missed you. Got home on Sunday. Wish we could have stayed all week.

That's the one. Our house is directly west of this in the next channel over (Christie).

You're out there now, so hope you "had" a good trip for when you get back and read this.

Question: what carb/jet configuration do you run up in Tahoe? I was going to try to bring our 20 up with us, but I never got out to Parker to pick'r up. Next time, it DEFINATELY going; I've been up there two summers in a row, and it drives me nuts not to have it. I've heard that it's a mandatory switch, and also I've heard don't bother. i would be interested to know what your take is seeing how you're running it there now.

Lake Arrowhead water surface elevation is right around 5100'. Tahoe is just over 6200' if I remember correctly. Having lived in both places my personal experience is that a NA carbureted engine on any vehicle, but especially a boat, will need at minimum a jet swap to run worth a darn at this elevation if it's been tuned for near sea level use.

Assuming the Parker strip is around 500' the air density is approximately 14.4 psi (not accounting for weather). At Tahoe the pressure is just under 12 psi (again, not taking the weather into account). That means a density reduction of about 20%. Add to this the water surface temp at Tahoe only gets near 70 during a warm summer. This causes some open loop boats to run too cool... at least ours always did. The other bummer was the prop... if you are NA and running a little too much prop at sea level the elevation will compound the problem.

If anyone has recent pictures of Tahoe I'd love to see them. I feel homesick everytime Tahoe gets mentioned.

Aloha

It looks like the owner painted or gelled over the woodgrain.
From the looks of the air scoop, he must have some power in that thing.
What kind of condition was it in?

I never got a close up look; this was a ZOOM shot from our driveway. The pic is bad and it's hard to tell, but with the naked eye it looked as though the woodgrain was still around the cabin and on the transom. It looked pretty good from far! It sounded pretty healthy, too. I saw it under the cover (pictured above) most of the time, and then not unlike Kaiser Soze, "Poof" it would be gone. I kept trying to get a peek of it, and wouldn't you know it, as we were packing up to leave I heard it fire up. I happened to see the camera in the front seat just in time to catch this shot. Next trip up, I plan to take a stroll over in the afternoon (that's the time of day that I noticed it missing most), and try to catch the owner so we can BS a little.

I love the 24XS; it looks like a 20 on steriods!

We came across one coming into the keys on 15th (i can't remember if it's St or AVE; we just call it 15th) last summer before July 4th. Looked to be a decent size black bear just out on a morning stroll. Good Times!:thumbsup

First, this boat NEVER belonged to Mitch. It was purchased by two water ski racers, Ron and Sue, in 1998 and shipped from Pennsylvania to South Lake Tahoe. The boat was in storage for a couple of years when Ron passed away in 2003, and Mitch helped Sue and her children restore it and get it back in the water (2005). Two engine rebuilds, but now since 2008 Tony Hewes of Hewes Performance Machine and a lot of friends since Mitch's passing have made this 460 (bored once over) strong and healthy. Have to have a governor on it to keep Sue (me) and the teenagers from blowing it; with the governor it still easily runs 50mph on Tahoe. It is a fantastic Tahoe boat and takes the windy summer waters with ease.

Totally love the Spectra and its set up with the V-drive (great for skiing, wakeboarding, and now wake surfing.) It's not just a boat, but total euphoria for my family! I am trying to post a photo of it on land, not sure if it worked.

Thanks for your compliments on my boat.

Like Brent said, more pictures please! :)

I'd really appreciate seeing some pictures of the interior. That's a great looking Spectra! I really like the snap on cover too. My existing full cover is not long for this world and I'd like to replace it with a setup similar to yours.
