Paul "Outlaw Daytona" entrusted me to have his new AFR heads polished out here in California, after not finding anyone he trusted at a reasonable price in New Mexico. I would have thought labor would have been cheaper there? Anyway, sent them out to my local polisher after masking them off to keep most of the abrasives out of them, to save time when it came time for me to wash them later.

My polisher did his usual good quality job.

I tried to have them flowed at Sissell's prior to polish, but he was tied up on the dyno, so they had to go after they were freshly polished. Fortunately he is careful, and they came back to me with no scratches. Since I was also to assemble the heads, they got carefully washed, as did all the components, valves, spring locaters, retainers, locks and shims.

I didn't try to photograph myself checking the spring pressure on my Rimac, or measuring the installed height, but looking at the photos you can see the red felt pen numbers for each port, and my recently aquired heavy duty valve spring compressor(note the delrin plastic spring cup to protect the valve). Springs were set for a solid roller cam, 1.920" installed height, 240 lbs of pressure on the seat. I work carefully to try and maintain a tolerance of .005" on spring heights by measuring individual spring shims, and then the stack before installing.

I plan on running a carb hat but I hate the way they look,
reminds me of the old propane pickups on the farm.
I'm trying to find one the will go inside the scoop.

I dont want to take any close up pics until I get a chance
to clean it up some, my machine shop consists of a band saw,
cheap drill press, a 1947 atlas lathe and some hand power tools.:D

Wow,, thanks a bunch Troy, will keep that in mind! Only problem is now everyone is going to think I am getting free stuff and figure they shouldn't have to pay either? lol

What paint did you use for the block? Your engine looks incredible by the way.

Thanks, Lock

Thanks Lock,

Its a base coat/ clear coat, the color started as a Chrysler wheel silver
and the Guy mixing it added more flake and some other stuff. The color
in person is not what shows with pics, more like a bright silver.

Paul
