Purchased mine off ebay from RUNNINGHOT here on the boards . The light is put together well and seems very waterproof . Pretty damn bright too .They provided a lot of wire to be able to get to where you need it . I just spliced into my transom light . Bright enough to illuminate the back half of my boat . So for the price and ease of install you just cant beat it in my book .:thumbsup

Didnt get pics since my phone died on me ..... will get some next week .

I always thought putting a sending unit on the drain plug(s) with a warning light to the dash might be a hot seller.

I also ordered one and have yet to install it. Im going to do the same thing, run it to my rear nav light so when i hit the switch it comes on. My only concern is when i have to go through the calif inspection station, they want to see the drain plug is out of the boat. Im wondering if i can unscrew it without riping or twisting of the wires from the nav light?

My next question to runninghot: i ordered it off ebay and i specifically requested the blue light, when i look inside i dont see any blue bulb or led. Should i see something blue or did you send me the clear/white one?

if you requested / purchased a BLUE LED the boyz would have shipped you a BLUE LED unit ,note all the plugs look clear its the LED chips inside that form the color .. they have them color coded as well the shrink boot on the bulb end for BLUE will be blue, RED= red,GREEN= green , and CLEAR/WHITE = grey ... or just touch the leads to any 12 volt power source and she should illuminate BLUE .. i talk to them a few Xs a day and know there slammed and shipped 251 of these last week and they worked last sunday to ship out 21 plugs .. i'm in Florida till the 15 th and Bob & Bill jr are at the helm :thumbsup:thumbsup let bob know if any other questions .
thanks :champagne:

I just checked and i have a one inch piece of the the blue shrink wrapping on it. But yah, im wondering if it will create a problem with unscrewing it so the inspectors at the inspection station can do their check.

I just pulled it out of the package and stretched it out and i dont thinking it would create a problem as there is enough wire to take the "coiling" of the line if you want to call it that. I guess i'll just have to try it out and see. Its just gonna be a pain in the ass to run the wire up from the bilge to where i have my rear nav light. I have to remove all three batteries and the rear bench seat to remove the rear side paneling to get to the light.

If anybody else has used this product, please pipe up and let us know how you did your install and if you had any problems unscrewing it without riping or breaking off the wires for the inspection station going back into CA.

i think with a 4 ft length of wire and the 8 to 10 turns it requires to put your
drain plug in you will be fine ..... if it was 2ft I would be worried ....

Why would the blue ones be illegal and not the green ones? Why are they illegal at all?

we don't have testing /inspection station in ill but i've had 3 BLUE LED units in the Skater for all of last year and we pull the plugs monday mornings when we put her back on the trailer and put her back inside the bldg and no problems whatsoever . Is it easier to put a toggle switch by the battery switch and turn the LED on from there instead of removing batteries & panels ??

Blt4spd2 from what i've experienced the wire DOES NOT twist the whole cable turns with the unit as a whole just like an extension cord .hope this helps :champagne:

I asked this to the sgt incharge of the boating force out of needles. He said the only lights that are legal are bow lights and the stearn light. U can be cited for not displaying proper lighting while under way. Blue and red are illegal on any vehicle other then a police car. U can only have them on while moored or beached.

I just might have to put a toggle switch on it and run it to the batteries, that way i can shut it off if the the "fuzz" gives me a hard time about having underwater lights on, and also it would save me the hassle of removing all the crap to get to the stern light. I really dont drive to much at night anyways, just thought it would be cool to have if and when i do drive the boat at night, especially for only $45 bucks or whatever i paid.

Ya after stretching the wire out then simulating turning the plug 8-10 times i dont think there is going to be problem due to the amount of length in the wire. Like someone said, if it was 2-3 ft. of wire i would be worried, but not the extended length you gave me. Just a valid concern i had. Cant wait to try it out in Havasu at Desert Storm this year!

Bingo...that's what I heard... blue/red illegal because they look like police colors...but I do like the blue the best but I'm giving the green a try...:thumbsup

I think I'm going to install a toggle as well so I can easily use it when I want.....

Funny part is the sgt told me he thinks they are cool and that he would not cite for having them. He was like.... More lights are better! But until the coast guard acknowledges them we have to enforce the laws as they are written. My lights are wired into my interior sexy lights. I might put them on a seperate toggle this year im not sure.

I can see them getting worked up if you had lights on the top of your boat that were blue, like your stern light or lights on a wakeboard tower; but lights underneath the water? I would think it would be pretty easy to tell the difference!

LAAAAAME!

But what the hell do i know...and i even spent 4 years in the Coast Guard! Like a CalTrans worker on a boat!

sounds like the toggle switch in most cases is the simplest & fastest way when dealing with tight quarters ,or having to remove panels, seats, batteries, etc :grumble: i know they installed these LEDS in a fountain and in a power Quest yesterday , the powerquest was wired to a toggle next to the battery switch and the fountain owner wanted his ran to the dash with a new toggle both installs complete in 1 hour each :thumbsup:thumbsup

Have any ideas or pics of what type of toggle switch and where i could get one? A simple inline one i could splice onto it would work i think. I dont mind raising the engine hatch for a few seconds to turn it on/off.

Autozone, oreilly, etc will have a selection. They are a bit pricey, maybe $5...

I have been meaning to pick one of these up as it will be awesome for surfing at dusk.....

But, what happens when the epoxy/glue cracks that holds the led into the plug? Not a good look!

must just be a west coast thing with Epoxy cracking nowadays :lmao
and just to address your concern when i seen these assembled the plug is machined/drilled/tapped to the correct size and then the LED unit is threaded in .

Brian just got off the phone with the boyz in Illinois and read them your post and Bobs reply was they ran cycle tests for a year on these LEDS with hot & cold and units were placed in an oven 10 units at a time for heat soak ,and then frozen for 24 hrs ,heat soaked another 8 hours and then tested for leaks ,LED illumination , and any product failure .. just my .02 cents worth :blah:

If people ar worried about the twist in the wire, just twist it counterclockwise the amount of turns you turn it in clockwise to put it in before you install it and it will end up straight.

Duhhhhhh.

I like the idea. I'd wire them into my light switch. I can always add a 3 position switch.

Sheriff isn't even on the waters at night here. I dont do much night boating. Only when Squirtinghisload drives us around Parker or local lakes.

I got a red one and a white one in my mail today.

Im looking to have the red one glow when Im parked. They definately look solid. I have an open switch on my dash for an accesory, so Im going to look at wiring it to there. I dont want to have to raise and lower my hatch if there is a group of people on board. Im also going to wire in a +/- base high in the bilge to be able to switch light colors easily (one drain hole). I also want to be able to remove the unit for towing. I could see it working its way to the ground if it is hanging out for the inspection station. :thumbsup

Just one more thing to do before Desert Storm!! :D
